Kenwood KRF-V5050D - problem - switching itself off !

Hi all - new to this forum - hope someone can help. I have a rather old (2001) Kenwood KRF-V5050D amp/receiver that I having been using with a Pioneer DV-444 DVD player and Celestion sub/5 speakers for some years now....generally very happy (especially when I added my 15 year old Mordant Short speakers into the party !).....

anyway....the problem - the amp switches itself off randomly....quite annoying in the middle of a movie !

any ideas on why.....? could it be related to the other issues I saw on this forum - some soldering issue....not sure if worth spending any cash on investigating/fixing as is so old now.... ?

could it somehow be related to the remote ?

thanks in advance for any advice !

cheers
JFW

Hi and welcome to the forums. Have you recently moved the equipment, and are now restricting the airflow around it, could be an overheating problem. Have you checked all the cables? no loose wires? Is the unit protected with a surge socket? could be interference of some sort in the house wireing. Try taking the batteries out of the remote and using the front controls to operate. Cant see the remote effecting it though.

are the speakers the correct ohms rating for the amp?
theamp will protect itself if becomes too hot especially when played very loud.

sounds like a speaker wire that is short circuiting, check these before you do anything.

if it was a short caused by a speaker wire crossing,it would not switch off randomly unless the vibration was making it intermittent.
