Well I'm slowly getting used to my phone more and taking to it more and more.

Watched BBC iplayer in bed last night and was great on this screen!
My only real niggles are:

Can't seem to click on zoomed out links in opera. (done the reg tweak)

Can't send mms, just keeps trying to send and an msg pops up saying dialling from mobile with an option to dismiss.

Does the hd2 Have any flash support? All the sites I tried last night kept prompting me to download flash player?

if anyone can help me with my issues above id be very happy. particularly the mms issue as i really can't see where to go on my phone to check/configure mms.

3) Anyone here using Skyfire Browser? If you do would you recommend it?
Many people don't use a screen protector on an HD2. Protectors are necessary for phones with resistive touchscreens, because a resistive screen works by actually being pushed inwards when you press on it. That means the screen has to be soft enough to be easily pushed, which means it can easily be damaged. But the screen on an HD2 is capacitive - made from hard glass rather then plastic. I wouldn't advise keeping it in the same pocket as anything metal (e.g. coins, keys) but other than that it's not likely to get scratched (and it may even stand up to that).

I'll let other people deal with the SD card question.

The latest version of Skyfire (1.5) is a major step up from previous versions. It's generally not as good as Opera, but it has one major advantage in that it is much more compatible with Flash (and, indeed, Silverlight). So if you go onto the BBC News website, for example, you can actually watch all the video reports in Skyfire. This is difficult or impossible with other browsers. I use Skyfire specifically for Flash sites, and Opera forall other stuff on my TP2.

One good reason is that a higher class of card makes no difference whatever to the performance of the phone. The rate at which the phone is capable of reading from or writing to the card is so slow that even a class 2 card can easily handle it; and even if that weren't the case, there really isn't much that the phone does which could benefit from higher data transfer rates. All the files it uses are either quite small or only need to be read from slowly. If you're watching a video, for example, the maximum bit-rate you'll be using is something like 2 Megabits per second while any class 2 card can be read at rates comfortably above 2 Megabytes per second.

The only time the class of the card makes a difference is if you take the card out of the phone and plug into a card reader attached to a desktop PC. Under those conditions, copying a large number of big files from the PC to the memory card can be faster with a higher class card. On top of that, the class rating can be quite conservative; a class 2 card from a good manufacturer (such as SanDisk) may well be faster than a no-name class 6 card.

As above, try using Skyfire as your browser for Flash sites.

I'm afraid there's an issue with volume indeed and a search in this thread shows I'm not the only one

If I can add a couple of things I need clarification on please..

v1.48/9 - I haven't done this yet .. will I lose all my personalisation that I've spent 2 days setting up? serves me right for forgetting to do it if so :-(

Music.. I have an Ipod Touch and use Itunes .. I'm guessing the HD2 run mp4 files as thats what pics and videos are, but I seem to struggling with Media Library - the HD2 handbook suggests it should be v11 and I can't even seem to work out how to determine what version I'm currently running, and when I tried to update the library with my Ituns stuff, nothing happened ..

Any suggestions for this newbie would be greatly appreciated (or directions of where to look to find out).

Myplayer is a very nice way to access BBC iPlayer, and I recommend it. It isn't actually necessary to use Coreplayer or TCPMP though, if you don't want to. Myplayer accesses iPlayer in two different ways: direct streaming, and downloading. Directly streamed stuff plays very nicely in the built-in streaming media player. The downloads (which are much higher quality than the streamed stuff) are in .mov format. These will play in Coreplayer or TCPMP, but if you don't want to mess with those then you can simply change the filename extension from .mov to .mp4, and they will then play beautifully in HTCAlbum. On my TP2 this results is far higher playback quality than you'd get in TCPMP or Coreplayer. The difference is probably smaller on an HD2, but it's still worth trying.

Looking at the photos in the sale thread yours will be O2 branded, so you will need to make a "gold card", then run the update as normal.

That way worked for me, now debranded and on 1.48rom.

Xda best place to do this.

Its a doddle.

How to change from one ROM to another including Gold Card

neuty

EDIT:

Its all about getting the serial number off the sd card and loading an image onto it, then you can install the rom.

This method will allow you to install Official Roms on a Branded handset. Takes about 10 mins to do.
You've JB'ed an iPhone so this should be no more difficult

16GB SAN DISK MICRO SD HC 16 GB SDHC MEMORY CARD TF UK on eBay (end time 08-Jan-10 04:37:30 GMT)

This may be a dumb question but I'm guessing we already know it can use a 16gb card? (only asking as the ebay thread suggests not everything can.. )

I don't know much about the technicalities but I can't help thinking the Up/Down control might have something to do with this .. it suggests it 'customises the way your up/down repeats', maybe has something to do with how reacitve the buttons are?? Start, menu, all settings, personal, buttons, up/down control tab.

How come HTC sell an official screen protector then for the HD2? Is it for the naive/gullible? The product id is SPP300.

HTC sell them because they really are needed

Use a screen protector don't let anyone tell you that capacitive display's don't scratch easily .. they do !

I have an HD2 and iphone 3G .. my iphone ended up with numerous scratches on the display and from nowhere it seems, despite being very carefull with it .. they just appeared. I'm not making the same mistake with my HD2 so got a screen protector immediately !

They dont!

Ive had 2 iphones over 3 years and not got a single scratch on the screen. Thats without any cover or case!

Im a bit happier with my hd2 now but still cant send mms!
Im liking the tweaks and how i can customise it but for me i think its just a stop gap until the new iphone or possibly winmo 7.

I just cant really get on with winmo, ive tried and its certainly usable but its also cumbersome and i just feel like the phones missing something.

Really not hard at all. Much easier than the early iphone jailbreaks/unnlocks.
