Ordered a HTC Hero on Three with 24 months Spotify...

But I have checked their price guide HERE and it seems their 'unlimited' internet usage is subject to a fair usage policy, which is fair enough, but it's 1GB!

I am intending on using the Hero for GPS nav when google turn-by-turn navigation comes out, along with streaming music from Spotify. Now, I think that using the Hero as my main music device will eat this allowance away quite quickly.

Is this fair of them? It seems to me like this is a definite case of false advertising! 15GB for a mobile device I think could be considered 'unlimited' internet, but 1GB is just a little too tight.

What do you guys think? Anyone else on their unlimited internet plans?

Re: Ordered a HTC Hero on Three with 24 months Spotify...

I'm not sure if the 1gig limit applies to Spotify?

1gig is pretty decent though. I just upgraded to the Hero on three, but didn't take Spotify. Got it for free on my existing £25/month tariff that already has a £5 discount included

Should be arriving next week. So, hint to everyone, although the Hero doesn't show in the online upgrade website and the shops refuse to do the upgrade, calling the 333 number will get you the upgrade

Re: Ordered a HTC Hero on Three with 24 months Spotify...

Yup, but they refused me a deal of any kind, I was a little put out by that. I was going from the 300 Mix n' Match with an N95 (£25 a month), so I thought they might have been a little more flexible on the price, but nada...

Re: Ordered a HTC Hero on Three with 24 months Spotify...

Right, it seems that any music streamed over the air on a Sporify premium account IS deductable from the monthly 1GB allowance....

Quote:
If you bought the HTC Hero with the Spotify Premium subscription included for 24 months there will be no extra subscription fees. But any music you stream or download when you are on the 3 network will come out of your monthly internet allowance. You can, however, download music over a WiFi connection to avoid this - and by synching your playlists offline you'll be able to listen anywhere, including on the underground.
So it looks like I will be using the offline sync option most of the time, and doin it over my wifi. This is really agravating though, when they are allowed to use the term 'unlimited' to apply to what appears to me to be VERY limited.

Not cool, Three, not cool.

That's pretty weak, especially with applications like Spotify. Thanks for the reply drsuave!

Re: Ordered a HTC Hero on Three with 24 months Spotify...

T-Mobile is 1TB! I'm switching! Lol!

Seriously though, it makes sense to launch these types of smart phone on a larger allowance due to the data services they can access. I think I would have been far happier if I foun dout it was a 3GB cap.

On a related note, this is the second day that I am waiting for my phone, although I just called Three, and apparently it is coming tomorrow. I waited in all day yesterday, just to find out they had tried delivering it to my old address yesterday at 13:30. I even double checked with them that they were delivereing to my new address when I placed the upraged order.

How much money does it really save them moving their call centers to India, when they loose customers due to the incompetence of the people taking the calls?

Re: Ordered a HTC Hero on Three with 24 months Spotify...

Three really do have a shocking CS, the call centers are a joke, when I phoned up about the hero last week the guy didn't even know it existed, then when he finally did agree it was a handset they're selling, he tried fobbing me of with an upgrade that worked out worse value for money then the offers they were giving new customers on the website. Actually, he tried saying that my current tariff, was the best value they did, and it's £30 for 500mins and 100 texts! Barefaced lies

Well I got tired of umming and arrring about getting a hero or a HD2 or waiting to see if the passion/dragon happens, so I bit the bullet, and even though I hate three, just upgraded to the Hero(free) on £26 a month with Ultd (1gb) internet, 500 mins and Unltd texts for 18 months.

Hmmmm, is it worth me getting in touch amd saying that I am not happy with my new deal? I may do that tomorrow while I am waiting for the phone, and resist the urge to send it back to them>

Re: Ordered a HTC Hero on Three with 24 months Spotify...

I think you have 14 days after verbally agreeing to your new contract to re-negotiate it, if it's extra internet allowance though, I'm not sure they'll budge.

If it's after 14 days, I don't fancy your chances much, I managed to re-negotiate mine after about 40 days, but it was really just a case of robbing texts to get some more mins.

Im coming to an end with three, been with them 18months now, paying £45pm for mix match 900 calls or text plus £5 unlimited (1Gb and filtered!)
And I want the hero, I told them only if they get my bill down to £25pm but they will not budge from three's plan of £35pm for hero!
Infact I have 2 weeks left and have my pac, the last time i spoke to them she went and spoke to her manager.... 2 mins later I got offered it "being a great deal and all they can now offer it to me for £34.26!

WOW!
They sure know how to bargain..........

But it you got it for £26pm, i think il wait

Wow a whole 76p off!!

Basically mine worked out at the free Hero, then changing my plan to add the Unlimited texts, then adding the £5 internet addon, then taking off some £8 'loyalty bonus'. and then something else to get it to £26.

That's a pretty shoddy deal they're offering you though, I wonder if it's actually cause I had over a month left on my old contract, and 'cause you only have a couple of weeks left, maybe they think you'll just bite the bullet and take whatever you're offered? Regardless, should be able to squeeze them a bit more!

Oh, mine doesn't have the spotify thing with it, i knew it was the sort of thing I'd use for a couple of months then never use again, so I was more bothered about getting monthly tariff down, so if they're offering you spotify too, maybe that's why you're not getting as much off?

nickhopkins07 - I tried getting a discount form them, but they said they would have to see what package they gave you to see if they could match it (I told them some rubbish about it being a mate that I see from time to time), and they asked for a hpone number to compare

Apparently, loyalty means nothing to Three, and with their customer services, they should really be trying a little harder! Though I will say, the two blokes I talked to today spoke good English, and did try to help (instead of just reading from a script).

My internet allowance doesn't kick in until the 1st, so it's wifi only until then!

I didn't go for Spotify either, but I don't think that alters the monthly rental, just the upfront payment.

Anyway I got mine down to £25/month with no hassle at all, didn't even need to ask for a discount etc. Only thing I did was refuse the useless £5/month insurance.

Can I just ask what you were on prior to upgrading? I was on Mix and Match 300 with an N95 8ghost for 25 a month.

Also, where is the pound sign on this thing? Great phone though! Using it to post. This over the WiFi...

Got mine today, having a good play! My free internet doesnt kick in yet so only on WiFi too, but is nice and quick, loads youtooooob quicker then on my laptop

Cant get into hotmail though so far, keeps saying my credentials are wrong.

On the second screen to the right (not started customising home screen yet!) there is a long thin 'favorites' bar, I only seem to add people that are in my gmail contacts to it, would be good to add actual phone contacts too, is it possible?

Share any tips and clever tricks you find!

I am just going to suck in the gut and take it. It's still a better deal than the other providers I have looked at.

Oh, and to you other new-HTC guys, grab Task Manager 1.11 from the Market. It gives you an Android widget that will close all non-essential programs with one button press. Good stuff!

Finding advanced Task Manager Free is a good little tool for keep trackof what's open. All much of a muchness I guess.

Something I am having trouble with, is not matter how hard I try, I cant log into 'MY 3' to check my usage or check my hotmail, be it going through the web or using the HTC mail app. Any ideas guys?

Apps i've downloaded and ended up keepin:
beebplayer
Advanced Task Manager Free
Shazaam
SMS Popup
Metal Detector
Listen
Footmob 4.0
3G watchdog, although I might change that with something else!

Lovin the phone so far though Got the HTC pouch for it too, looks good and protects it well.

I had about a month left before my contract ended. Something you might struggle with is the length of the contract, I got the distinct impression it isn't something they consider changing, price yes, quotas yes, new handset yes, but not contract length. Best of luck though.

I'm not willing to consider 24m. It's 18m at a good price or im leaving them. Thing is Hero has been out a while and as good as it is is still really expensive. If the hd2 was android I wouldnt even be thinking twice about renewing my contract with three.

Got an N96 and it is driving me insane
