HTC HD2 or Passion

Key question. - Go for the HD2 next week with WinMo or wait for the Passion with Android 2.0 & Snapdragon at the end of Dec probably - what do you think?

Re: HTC HD2 or Passion

It really depends if you like using WinMo or Android and how patient you are.

You've got fans on either side who'll tell you that their platform is the best. My advice would be to go into a shop and have a good go on both platforms. That'll give you a taster of what each can do and their limitations.

Personally, I'm in the WinMo camp because of my work and also because I like to keep hold of my data i.e. not happy with a 3rd party holding it.

Cheers
Moosh

Re: HTC HD2 or Passion

I agree with Moosh, alot depends on how fussed you are about the operating platform. Personally I don't have an issue with Windows Mobile, so am happy to go with the HD2, but for other people it seems to be a real killer.

The other thing to bare in mind though is that, given all the hype around the release of the HD2 and the various delays along the way, I'd be very surprised if we actually see an Android version on the market and in shops before the new year. These things inevitably get delayed and delayed, so if you want something anytime soon I'd go with the HD2 on as short a contract as possible, or buy it SIM free and then sell it on if you decide that you'd prefer an android version at a later date.

Can you explain this to an Android newbie?

Or even the Sony Ericssson Xperia X3 whcih has to be in the mix. My guess is that SE are going to try to release before Xmas rather than lose too many sales

Re: HTC HD2 or Passion

The passion is the phone also being rumoured as the 'Dragon' right? If so, where did you get the due date of end of December from? I currently can't decide whether to just get the hero, or wait for this phone, which rumours seem to indicate will overshadow the Hero. There seemed to be a glut of rumours a while back, and now it seems very quiet?

I would assume Moosh is referring to the tight Google integration.

To get the best out of Android you need a Googlemail account. The two are synchronised so your contacts, calendar etc are in-sync and available via your Googlemail account. You also need this to make purchases via Google Checkout.

There is also integration with Google reader, Doc's etc.

Many people have a fear of Cloud Computing and are under the impression that their personal data is being sold to Russian crooks. But this is the future and this will become the norm.... Cloud Computing that is, not the Russian crook bit...

I think it's brilliant. I can manage my contacts and calendar online and it's instantly reflected on my phone. I also give my Mrs' access and she can add things I need to know about. It also means that if I lose my phone or it stops working, I don't have to worry about having an up-to-date backup on my PC.

It's personal opinion and entirely down to what you're comfortable with. For me, it's a huge selling point. For others and I think Moosh is included in this, it's a reason to stay away. There is no right and wrong

The Passion most likely won't be out till April.
