Buying a Hero - How to know if its real?

Hi All,

Im about to buy a new HTC Hero from a company called City Telecom. They say that the manufacture of the handset is in China.

Their Website is www.citytelcom.co.uk

How can you tell if the handset is genuine?

Many Thanks.

Re: Buying a Hero - How to know if its real?

The HTC Hero is manufactured in China.
Most Mobile phone producers outsource manufacturing to the far east where there's cheap labour.
Your link doesn't work but Googles suggested link takes you to "City Telecom"...they don't list HTC mobiles on their site.

Re: Buying a Hero - How to know if its real?

Thanks for the reply.

I made a typo in the original post, its now corrected!

The company are new to ebay, but apparently been in business since the 80's. As you said they dont list any heros which is strange.

Is there any way you can tell if the handset is genuine?

Thanks

The Hero doesn't come with a software CD as they state...hmmm.
I paid £349 for mine last week here and can thoroughly recommend them.

The Hero does come with a mini cd, at least mine did, but of user manuals in multiple languages (central/eastern European as per my location, plus English) not software.

Re: Buying a Hero - How to know if its real?

No no no, why would you spend £350 with a new seller on ebay with no feedback yet? Buy it from an established website to get the warrenty and enable you to get it insured. Most insurers will not give you insurance on a phone purchased via ebay.

Re: Buying a Hero - How to know if its real?

The phone is now listed on their main website. And its advertised for £329 if buying direct throught them

I have emailed them a couple of times asking about warrenty etc and returns if its not genuine.

They seem to have a good history with some blue chip customers.

You should supply a link to the page if you want any comments on it.
I suspect since they only had 1 of them listed on eBay that it actually belongs to one of the staff who's trying to sell it...I can't imagine it being a fake.
Personally if they haven't replied to your email I wouldn't touch it.

Re: Buying a Hero - How to know if its real?

Scooby the price is excluding vat. If you check the terms and conditions you'll see it states all prices on the site are excluding. Buy it from a proper place. it will cost the same by the time they've added it in. Also they charge for insurance and can alter the price prior to delivery. Neither is an acceptable practice from a reputable seller.
