Hero - 'a network error has occurred'

What does this mean? im trying to download an app from the market but i just keep getting this message and its driving me nuts. I have the H symbol with 2 arrows that flash now and again, im guessing this represents upload/download. weather and mail seem to update ok so whats the problem? im on orange and yes i only just got my phone yesterday.

EDIT:

the full message reads

"Attention. A network error has occurred. Retry, or cancel and return to the previous screen"

I can use the browser kind of - I get google search results but when I click on one nothing happens.

Ive never used a mobile data connection before. Can you have a varying strength of 3g connection or is it just - got connection/havent got connection? if you get my drift.

When you set up your phone, did you link it to a gmail account? This is required in order to download apps from the Market

Yes, I'm pretty sure you have to link the account during initial set-up of the phone, you'll need to do a master reset and start again if you want to access the Market.

Re: Hero - 'a network error has occurred'

I've tried the factory reset and went through the start up process exactly, however I'm still getting this error. My connection seems very temperamental. I browse the marketplace for a few minutes but then ill be scrolling down and it will get stuck loading and then say no connection. This occurs when I still have the WiFi symbol and I have to turn WiFi on then off in order to wake it up. Please help!
