EDIT: When I posted this I hadn't been able to find anything in the forum about it, jsut found a couple of pages though

As i understand it now, 500mb seems to be thought of as enough for light usage, and as most of my use will be at uni and home, both on wifi networks, it should be enough, as mobile internet can be switched off (unless I am mistaken about this)

I am eligible to upgrade my phone with t mobile and was looking at the g2 touch.

I have seen a cheaper deal on orange, but with a 500mb internet limit.

I called T-mobile to try to get them to match it, and was told they couldn't do better as they give 3gb internet usage becuase the g2's internet is "always on" and with a 500mb contract I would eat through it in no time. and they the orange contract is basically useless.

How much of this is true and how much is T-mobile trying to keep a customer without negotiating price?

I'd be very surprised if T-Mobile can't match the deal with Orange. Tell them you're walking if they won't match it, as you'll definitely get a better deal from an independent even with a T-Mobile SIM, that's what I did. I posted this in another thread, but this article lists some great deals for the Hero, but I suspect if you just let them know you're walking, they'll try and match it.

Do you think it is worth waiting till orange sell the iPhone, I know its expected to take around £5 off the contract price per month, does anyone think this will affect other smartphones prices?

i reckon if you used mainly wifi then 500mb would be plenty. just out of interest, what tarriff are you looking at for the hero? i'm thinking of getting one too but seem to be finding tmobile cheaper.

600 mins, unlim text, 500mb data, 46.50 for the handset and £24.46 per month (online price) = total £635

compared to 700 mins, unlim text, 3gb data, phone free £30 permonth with t mob. = Total £720

oh, i was looking at t-mobiles 'combi 30' 18 months (online)

700 mins, unlim txt, unlim data, free handset - £32 a month = total £576

im not sure wether its just for new customers though. even so as Merago says you should be able to negotiate if you're seriously thinking of leaving.
