HTC Hero back up prior to upgrade

Ok all been a way for 2 weeks, but i'd like to update my Orange HTC Hero with the official software, just been on the site and it says i should beack up my data first, what will i lose? And whats best way to back up, sorry if this has already been discussed.

From what I can see, you will lose installed apps. This can be later reinstalled from the "My application" section in the market.

You will lose your phone settings and personalised ringtones. If you have added stuff to your phone book lately, it may be worth syncing with Google. I think that is all about it really. [there could be more though]
