I transferred from 3 to T-Mobile, and had to use my 3 sim in my Hero until my PAC code was activated, so can confirm that it works fine.

Can't comment if any of the other 3 services (My 3 etc) will work though.

Thanks for that.

Gives me the option of staying with 3 and getting sim free handset.

Would that also apply to the Touch HD2 if it doesn't get launched on 3?

Re: HTC Hero on 3 mobile

Unless "3" launch the phone your in the same boat as me.

You can use the internet ( extra cost) etc but not "my 3". Also iskoot is used when they have skype ( one of the reasons why i wanted the phone/deal) i have lots of friends abroad mainly from Afghanistan and its very expensive to call yet its only peanuts to use the internet.

In effect you will be able to use the fone make calls like any other but loose the free things like the SPORT updates!

Re: HTC Hero on 3 mobile

They did have a htc a while on on their £30 contract when i went to find out about it ( view it) they said it has been taken off the shelves.

They have always said they are working on them buy never deliver. Pity really i have no problems with their network but cant understand the life of me when i'm talking to their customer service team.

Re: HTC Hero on 3 mobile

The hero coming to three is interesting, I'm on three now and got a bit shafted with my tariff, so had all intention of leaving them when my contract expires in December, but if they bring the Hero out, possibly with spotify bundled on a decent tariff I might have a change of heart.

I've always found their physical network to be the best, I rarely ever lose signal, but their customer support has been very poor from my experience, loyalty doesn't seem to mean a great deal to them, plus they seem to offer a really poor range of phones at the moment.

Re: HTC Hero on 3 mobile

If you are planning on using Spotify, or are already a Spotify user, then 3's offer is a pretty good deal, but otherwise it's pretty pricey and it's also a 24 month contract.

Re: HTC Hero on 3 mobile

Fantastic, so the Hero will be available on 3? Lucky I saw this thread, I almost bought one sim free - now I'll just wait for this to come out.

Don't want the spotify rubbish though. Just the phone, thanks!

Got an HTC Hero on 3

Please can someone answer my questions (I am an ex-iPhone 3GS user):

1. How do I get this unlocked? Is it free like the iPhone?

2. Is rooting the same as jailbreaking? Is it worth doing it? What are the benefits? Will it void the warranty?

3. After I get it unlocked, I would want to disable 3G and use 2G/Edge if I use some other SIM (maybe O2). How do I do this?

. Where do I enter the APN settings?

1. I guess 3 will unlock it for you

2. Not really. Jailbreaking is necessary on the iPhone because all sorts of stuff is locked down. Android is not like that, and the 3 Hero is not branded at all (apart from 2 icons on the home screen, which you can just delete). Some people do root their phone so they can access stuff but basically you don't need to. Rooting is just getting a higher level of permissions ("root access") on your Android linux phone. DOn't worry about it.

3. Not sure if you can do this, there's not an option in the data settings menu by default. Why would you want to disable 3G anyway - it won't affect your data tariff costs (but will affect your speed).

4. In the settings menu there's a mobile settings sub menu near the top. In there is the option to alter your data network and enter your APN settings

Thanks def.

I want to be able to disable 3G to save battery life. I have Wifi available which I will turn on when required.

Also, is it worth changing the firmware to a generic one (and losing warranty) just to get better battery life? Will I be able to reinstall 'Skype on 3'? I heard that 3 has special certificates on their firmware, so if I load a generic firmware, the app may not install. Has anyone done this?
