I hate to say 'I told you so...' If they're this bad before you've even received the phone, it doesn't inspire confidence in their ability to deal with any issues once you have received the phone and they've got your money.. I speak from bitter experience.

This is why I'd always buy from a shop where I can take the thing back, slam it on a table, look someone in the eye and say 'Fix this... NOW!'

Sadly, Mobilephonesdirect should be named and shamed as they do not deserve to trade as their CS are appalling. I may sound abit harsh but it's the truth.

Steer well clear of them

Did abit of research on MobilePhonesdirect and their reputation is not...good!
Nearly went ahead myself and ordered the HTC HD2 on T-mobile via MPD, but needed to be sure who I'm dealing with were viable. Sadly though, this wasn't the case as there were too many negative feedbacks from previous customers who dealed with MPD.

Google MPD as in 'Are they any good?' and you will get result!!

The worst thing about these online companies is that they deliberately prey on just that impulse! They know people want these phones, and so they promise delivery dates that they often can't deliver, just to be ahead of the game and secure your business. They also offer what appear to be the best rates around, but again, they're only the best rates if they're backed up with a decent level of after sales service.

They also have less stringent tests for their software to ensure that it's compatible with the network provider, hence why they get phones out quicker than the networks, but again, this can cause problems later down the line.

The thing that annoys me most is their attitude towards their customers, they know that there's virtually nothing you can do if you don't like their service. They know the letter of the law, but also know that they can make life so difficult for customers that most people won't bother trying to apply their rights because it's so much hard work. You'll never speak to the same person twice, they'll pass you from department to department, lie to you, blame everyone but themselves and even hang up on you to deter you from seeking a valid claim against them.

The network providers are far from faultless, but at least you can go in an speak to a real person to try to resolve issues.

Hope it works out for you mate, as I say, it only becomes a problem if there's a fault with the phone, so fingers crossed.

re: HTC HD2

Anyway, back on topic! Noticed a number of official HD2 accessories are now listed on the HTC website, including the car kit with optional sat nav and various cases and screen protectors etc.

HTC: Accessory store: HTC HD2

Interested to see the headphones with in-line remote control and microphone listed at the very reasonable price of £12.99 (+p&p) - but I'm a bit confused as the description says 'The E160 includes 3.5mm stereo earphones or use your own!' but looking at the picture I can't see any way that you could plug in your own headphones to use them with the remote, which is an important issue for me. Anyone shed any light? HTC: Accessory store: Pocket PC Misc Accessories: HTC HD2 Stereo Headset with Music Controls RC E160 (3.5mm, Black): Description

That is gutting (and part of the problem about finding out about this phone so early!). I was set on moving to T-mobile, but apparently the reception in my area is pretty poor, so I might have to consider O2 now, although they're bound to be more expensive.

I'm hoping thats Just T-mobile and its because of issues with any software and branding they wanted on the phone.

re: HTC HD2

People over on the O2 forums have been receiving their HD2's from Deviceware today and they had some in stock about 15mins ago when I looked. Only 1 thing someone has mentioned was they couldn't get the battery cover off to start with but otherwise enjoying it lol If only I had 500 pound to buy it sim free. Only 12 days to wait till a possible O2 release date....

re: HTC HD2

Having watched some more vids I have made my mind up, I will definitely get the HD2. I will see what the best deal is over the next few days and order an unlocked one.

This vid shows what the video quality is like and it isn't bad considering it's a phone not a video camera. The stills at the end of the vid are very good too.

YouTube down for maintenance

This vid has a small feature on the HD2, go about 29 mins in, the presenters certainly like it.

re: HTC HD2

Some rather scary benchmark data for the HD2 today: HTC HD2 Retail ROM benchmarks: Slower than before! « MobileTechWorld

The pre-release ROM on the HD2 was noticeably slower than the Acer F1, but the retail version of the ROM is much slower again. The Acer is now 73% faster than the HD2 in the CPU benchmark, and 44% faster overall. This is despite the fact that the Acer has the same CPU and only 256MB of RAM compared to the 448MB sported by the HD2. Other benchmarks I've seen suggest that the Toshiba TG01 performs roughly on a par with the Acer, so HTC has clearly messed up badly, here.

The original Italian (translation here) adds that the new ROM has made the previously lag-free HD2 lag significantly in use, and caused it to lock up completely (requiring a soft reset) while running ActiveSync.

Well, these things are relative; it's slow compared to (so far) any other phone with a Snapdragon processor. It's still a lot faster than anything with a previous-generation CPU. It's also not clear exactly what sort of tasks are affected by the CPU performance. The drop in the CPU benchmark hasn't apparently affected the HD2's ability to decode video - the Coreplayer benchmark is fractionally faster with the release ROM than with the pre-release one (though still 15-20% slower than the Acer equivalent).

I'm not worried by the benchmark so much as I am by the overall impression that the phone seems to have acquired some lag. Most of the initial videos/reviews/previews suggested that the phone was remarkably fast and fluid in general use. It seems that may no longer be the case with the release firmware.

Having said that, the fact that another phone using almost identical hardware and barely half the memory can do anything 73% faster is pretty sad.

I take reviews like this with a pinch of salt, especially when its the only one to mention such a thing.

re: HTC HD2

These benchmarks mean nothing to me anyway. After ive had the initial play around and setting up i will just be using it for general stuff so i cant say that i will be able to tell if its slower/faster etc.

It's probably the only review so far to have access to a final version of the ROM.
