The Sony VAIO XL series aren't badly priced at the moment. The XL100 can be had for about £500, XL201 about £750 and XL301 for around £900

There are companies whop will make you a HTPC. CCL offer a build service for £70 and this includes a 1 year onsite warranty. You pick what components you want and they will advise and assemble. I know of a few friends and family who have done this and they are very pleased.

Allot of the HTPCs out there today are filled with old hardware and arent much cop at all. They are also vastly over priced for what they are. Do a custom build and get the latest hardware and a far better price.

As mentioned I would either go the CCL route and choose your components or build your own as the ready made ones seem really overpriced and the specs aren't great for the money!!

They are far more competitive than they used to be. I recently spec'd up a HTPC for a friend of mine and it was only a few quid more, literally than ebuyer or scan.

LEWIS is one make i have heard of..... these are fairly pricey but http://www.digitalfuturesolutions.com/idyl.htm quite special............ There are loads out there some are MEdia centre machines others are far more custom, Evesham do them too it depends what you want it for........
