No TrueHD via Ivybridge / No sound via MB

Guys,

First, thanks for everyone who helped with my purchase decisions. However, I have an issue based on the following :-

Intel i5 Ivybridge
Asus Z77 MB

Question 1: I take it I can't output video from the Intel HD 2500 and sound from the Realtek over the same HDMI port? Even though I can select the Realtek via HDMI in settings, no sound comes out. It only works when the i5 handles both video and sound.

Question 2: When the i5 handles both, even though it identifies that there's a Pioneer VSX receiver at the other end of the HDMI and says it's capable of supporting TrueHD, it sends PCM. MA DTS is fine. Any ideas? And yes, the VSX does support TrueHD and it works.

Thanks in advance,

jonjo

What happens if you connect Hdmi video via i5 and optical/toslink via Realtek output ports.. presuming you can do that?
try updating all your drivers..

Drivers have been updated to the max.

Optical will probably work (assuming the Realtek can pass TrueHD), just wanted to reduce the number of cables.

1. The realtek what? The settings of what? It's not clear what your setup is here and what you're trying to achieve. If you've got a realtek-based soundcard with HDMI in and it's not passing the audio through then have you checked for HDCP compatibility? I don't know if that would mess this up.

2. Assuming you're not generating the encoding dynamically (in which case it's probably that Dolby Digital Live doesn't support TrueHD) then are you sure your source has TrueHD and will output it? (e.g. a Blu-ray disc that includes it and a player that is passing it through rather than decoding to PCM for compatibility). Have you actually checked whether the PCM output from a TrueHD source is at TrueHD quality?
