Just one, as long as thy are pointing to the same transponder.

The guide says to scan each one to cover for all cases where the user might have have a mix of DVB-X and DVB-X2 or transponders., but in your case this is not needed.

Thanks, just sorting out my channels now.

Yet another question though. I have my videos in different folders (movies/tv shows/comedy/home movies/music dvds etc). I've added them to the videos folder but I can only put a tick in one of the boxes. How do I get MP to see them all. I'm coming from ages of using Media Browser but I'm slowly getting the hang of it all thanks to your excellent guide.

Yet again I posted in haste cos I've found the answer. I just had to untick the box and now they all show up.

I think the tick is the "default" folder.

If you navigate to ".." at the top of the MediaPortal My Videos screen and select it, you should then be shown all of your folders you setup in MP Config. You can then drill down into those directories.

That said, most comedy and TV shows would normally be listed under the TV Series plugin, and Movies under the Moving Pictures plugin. There is also a Music Videos plugin which will download fanart and info for your music videos too. To be honest, I only really use "My Videos" for home movies.

Does this help?

Sorry, I just realised you found another answer to your question.

In the Logitech device setup, I picked a Media Center SE device, see a page back for exact details. Tick the right box in MP and it's good to go. It doesn't do subtitles or switch between windowed TV and full screen without some tinkering though.

Another tip, map Alt F4 in your activity to something, very useful for killing external progs. Alt F4 is available with the SE device.
I've done a couple of changes to my remote setup and it works ok now. However, I do have a problem with the number keys on the remote. When I press a number to change channels it just takes me to a blank screen. I want to be able to press 1 and go to bbc 1, 2 bbc 2 etc. The numbers are set up on the remote ok so is there an option I've missed in the config box?

SOLVED! Yet again I should have done more searching before posting. There's an option in the tv config tab that you untick so it lets you change channel by number (can't remember what it's called). Is there a plugin that will let me order the channels as they are on freesat or do I have to do it manually? I'm off searching again now so no doubt I'll post back with the answer

Im loving Mediaportal but one thing that will always be an issue for me is oscam problem on startup, bascially it needs a little time for the card reader to stop flashing red, so any ideas on:

- How to start oscam immediately after mediaportal, I can delay mediaportal startup using config
- How to put a delay into a btach file and running that at startup to start oscam
- any other simpler ideas im completely missing

without the ability to remove the oscam startup issue I am reluctant to allow my computer to sleep, and i want to! im scared to take a meter reading :0

I have updated Section 7.2 to change the suggested "Enable CRC Check" option setting for DVB-S/S2 DVB EPG.

If you are having problems with getting DVB-EPG to work with FreeSat, then I suggest you enable this option (the guide used to suggest this option is deselected in all cases).

Thanks to moz414 for highlighting this setting error.

Does anybody have experience with getting LPCM from mkvs encoded with either DTS-MA or DD-TruHD through HDMI, specifically with MediaPortal but even with other software players?

I rip my Blu Rays with minimal changes, so even if I do transcode the video I tend to leave the audio untouched. My amp does not accept bitstream HD audio, but does accept LPCM.

There are a probably a number of ways to achieve this, this is one method that I think should work:

Use LAV Audio as your main audio codec, but don't have DTS-HD or Dolby True HD ticked for bitstreaming.

Add ffdshow as a post-processing filter and have that set up like this:

Ensure that Uncompressed (raw) is set to 'all supported' (this is right at the bottom of the codec list).

You don't need to have any other ticks in the left hand column. Especially ensure that 'Mixer' isn't ticked as this can cause errors.

Output - Output formats for uncompressed or decoded streams - put ticks in '16-bit integer', '24-bit integer', 'AC3 (S/PDIF encode mode)' and 'Encode 5.1 streams only'

Thanks for he guide Robbo, first class job. Wonder if you can help with a TV show related issue. I installed the TV show plugin you mention amongst our initial posts. Although its excellent at setting up established series, I have a number of series (kids stuff) which are unknown which makes the plugin useless in that scenario. Is there a good way of setting such series up manually (still giving me the option of adding fan art etc)?

Thanks once again

The easiest way to do this (which will benefit the community too) is to get a TheTVDB login and then add those shows (including the descriptions and fanart) to their online database. By doing this you will then download the data from the internet on all your PCs without having to make the same changes manually to each of your multiple client PCs (if you have more than one). Then the data will also be there for the rest of the world!

If you are a new contributer, it can sometimes take 24 hours for your content to be approved (just in case you think it is not working).

I dont understand how to go about uploading any data that I create, I have the MP-TV series plugin as well as an account with TVDB. From inside the MP-TV plugin, I see no way of editing information or uploading. Would appreciate any pointers.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. You don't do it through the plugin, but through theTVDB website: Online TV Database - An open directory of television shows for HTPC software

Login to the site (note, you don't need a login to use MPTV Series to download information, only if you are contributing to the content). Then click on the "Add a Series" link and then enter the information for your programme (global data for the whole series and then episode specific data).

After a short while the data you have entered should then get downloaded by MPTV Series and look fantastic like the rest (and thousands of people round the world will have their data populated too, because of your contribution).

P.S I am fairly sure you can enter data manually into MPTV Series (although I have never done it), but it will take the same amount of effort as putting it on theTVDB.com, but everyone will benefit.

I seem to have ironed out most of the problems I had encountered after my initial set up and how now started on the minor niggle list

I have 2 main directories within Mediaportal, one for my movies and the other for TV Episodes, the TV directory has a lot of cartoons for my kids and quiet a lot of them are not full screen and as a result I get the black bars on either side. Whilst I would never attempt to stretch a movie in that scenario, for kids TV it is perfectly acceptable and does not distort the image in any serious way.

Is there any way of specifying certain directory's which can be stretched if the video size is below 720p? I can see a global option within the configuration utility but nothing individual?

Thanks

Found a way to do just that, thought I would post it up I case anyone else ever wants to achieve similar.

In my case, the cartoons are all SD sources so firstly I changed the codec to ffdshow video. Next I went into Ffdshow video configuration and selected the resize and aspect tab. Tick the resize box then specify your screens vertical and horizontal size. Then under aspect ratio, change to whatever you are looking for. You then need to ensure process all image is ticked.

Works a charm

I have had a quick play with version 1.3.0. on my laptop. Seems very good.

I was really just testing the media portal audio renderer which seems to work a treat for the Freeview HD / SD audio problem. It does similar to what reclock does, but in a much simpler way. Bypassing the windows audio mixer and allowing 5.1 PCM to go through to the amp as 5.1 and stereo PCM as stereo.

Hurrah

I'll wait for it to be at final release stage though before upgrading my HTPC, I don't think many skins / plug ins are fully supported yet.

Sorry, I don't use MDAPI anymore, but I don't believe that anything in 1.3 should cause a problem.

It might be that you need to reregister MDAPIfilter.ax: MediaPortal and MDapi Problem

What do you use instead of MDAPI? I've been trying to track down an issue with my HTPC for months and I think I might've found it - whenever I use my BGT3600 and BGT3630 at the same time or my old TBS6981 in any configuration, I get BSODs when tuning to channels.

I've changed my motherboard, PSU, BIOS settings, drivers and it always happens. However, it doesn't happen with a fresh install of MediaPortal before MDAPI is installed.

Since it looks like there aren't going to be any new versions of MDAPI, I think I've hit a brick wall and I'm never going to get two tuner cards to work in parallel. *cries*

Yes but I think that's just a wrapper for the last MDAPI version. Turns out it wasn't MDAPI that was the problem anyway so it's fine.

What was the problem in the end (your solution to your own problem might help other users in the future).

Pretty sure it's a driver issue - BlackGold said they are looking into it. Everything was fine before I installed MDAPI but then I restored a backup from when it was working (pre-MDAPI) and it didn't work so it can't have been that causing the issue.

So is MDAPI working OK in 1.3.0 alpha then?
