Need help! Has anyone been able to sort out 1080p playback in xbmc under windows?

Media player classic plays them perfectly, even streamed wirelessly, and they even play in xbmc live running off a memory stick, but it would really help if I could get them running undercwindows as there's a handful of windows apps that I run (not least media center for recorded tv as xbmc seems unable to do anything useful with tv recorded in media center)

Oh, and couldn't get wireless network to work with the xbmc live under ubuntu.

Anyone getting a sense of deja vu......?!

Have you installed the latest NVidia drivers and made sure the DVXA option in XBMC (video playback) is enable.

Just received my Revo R3700 from eBuyer:

Acer Aspire Revo R3700 Desktop - Desktops | Ebuyer.com

Despite their spec saying "S/PDIF support for digital speakers" my s/pdif socket is black taped over.

I'm trying to work out if it's taped over to protect it, or because it doesn't support s/pdif. If it's the later I need to return it.

Does anyone have this exact model? Did yours come with tape over the s/pdif and have you 'un-taped' it?

The R3610 also came with tape. This was due to not supplying a plastic plug. Take the tape of and the red light inside should show.

Have version 258, just downloading 260. Frames rate is almost as low as 1 per second though, and the current time shown for the movie keeps skipping back and forth. Interestingly some 720p files I converted from mkv to mp4 a while back seem to run fine.

My 3610 had tape over the SPDif socket and then had a plastic plug in the box

Right, just installed 260 (latest video driver according to nvidia) and still no luck. Interestingly I have haali icon showing in task bar for mpc but nothing for xbmc. I have both ffdshow64 and haali media splitter installed. I have same issues with playback in windows media player.

@interloper, nwgarratt, Uridium

Thanks, un-taped the s/pdif, plugged into my A/V receiver and works fine.

Now to get rid of that god awful Linpus linux. Wouldn't even play an mp3 out the box which I found quite amusing.

Maybe have a little clean up of decoders and stuff on your machine..

I've just streamed a 15Gb 1080p MKV from my NAS completely stutter free. Mine is a clean out of the box 3610 running Win7 with just the acer crapware removed and XBMC installed 10 along with latest Nvidia driver.

Ok, removed all the codec packs, ffdshow and haali, and there's no change. We're lucky to get 1 frame a second with mkv files through xbmc, but play fine through media player classic.

I also have problems with the mouse stuttering or locking completely, at which point keyboard goes too. Starting to think there may be hardware issues!

Have a look in the Eventlog..(start>eventvwr) look in system and application logs..this should give you a clue where the problem is.

Ok, nothing useful in event logs, but I have found out that the problem is not just hd mkv files, non of my DVD rips play properly. Think I'll give up on xbmc, which is a shame.

How about a full restore of the Revo and start again if possible? XBMC on Revo plays mkv bluray rips perfectly, you don't need any external codecs so you may have gone wrong there

Have you got a 3610 or a 3700? I know almost nothing about computers but got it to boot from a memory stick on my 3610 without much hassle. PM me if you want to give it another go and I'll try and take you through it.

Edit: Just read your earlier post about where you ran into problems. I take it you didn't use UNetbootin to get XBMC Live on to your pen drive? I think that's where your problems probably started. It can be done very easily that way if you still want to do it.

Hi all

My R3700 (Windows 7 - 250GB - 2GB) should arrive today (I hope) and the first thing I would like to do is free it from all the unwanted software / programmes that Acer have kindly installed.

I have a brand new sealed copy of Windows 7 HP which I bought a while back to replace Vista on my laptop, however never got round to it.

So the question is... can I just connect an XBOX HD DVD Drive to the Revo, load the 64-bit W7 disc and let it do its thing, ie wipe the existing Acer W7 and replace it with this clean copy, or is it not that simple? ie drivers rqd etc...

Also once Ive used the disc and product key is that then tied to the Revo or could I still use the same disc / key as I originally intended, to load W7 on my Vista laptop also?

Thank you very much Baz

You could...but it would probably be easier to just use the HP copy with your laptop and just open appwiz.cpl on the Revo and remove the software from the Acer one. it only takes 30mins or so and everything uninstalls cleanly.

Isn't Win7 64 bit on the 3700?

I'm lost then! Why install Win7 on top of Win7? Acer doesn't add much rubbish tbh, only takes 10mins to remove

I can see where the OP is coming from as sometimes it can take longer to remove the crapware then just install a clean build......but in this case the Acer crapware does uninstall cleanly and only takes around half an hour so I'd say stick with the Acer build.

Many thanks Uridium and sorry I've not replied earlier, just got in.

What you say makes very good sense, and yes I agree it would be a shame to scrap the included Acer Win 7 / licence. The main reason I thought about replacing it was, basically I'm not sure what software / programmes to uninstall? However you mention appwiz.cpl, will this remove everything automatically or do I have to actually tell it what to uninstall?

Appwiz.cpl is just the shortcut to open the control panel add/remove programs applet

It's easy to spot what software to remove..loads of crap games, ebay, office trial, Mcafee AV, Norton scanner and a few acer apps.

took about 30-45 mins for me to uninstall it all. Only thing i left on was one Acer app (can't remember the exact name at the moment) that allows you to create the Win7 recovery CD.

Add Microsoft Security Essentials (free) for virus protection!

I have a 3700 running windows 7 with XBMC installed. A couple of Questions.

Can the Revo boot up from standby using a media centre remote?

Also how do you boot straight into XBMC on start up ??

Cheers!!
