Hi

Has anyone upgraded a Sony VGX-TP2 or TP3 series to Windows 7? I know that Sony use a special build of the Nvidia drivers - I think to support HDMI-CEC so am a little worried about compatibility?

Paul

I am trying... not being massively successful so far though!

First problem was the nvidia drivers, but eventually got past that by using forceware from laptopvideo2go - just put the hardware id in, downloaded the latest driver and the modded inf and it was fine.

However the problem I have now is drivers for the tv tuners... I've established that they're avermedia a313 dvb-t cards - but the vista driver crashes halfway through installation every time, so I'm assuming it's not compatible - and I can't find a windows 7 driver anywhere. Unless I get past this issue it's pretty much a showstopper as I can't watch TV using the media centre until I do!

Any help would be much appreciated!

i've got a similar problem with my TP3Z. i can't watch bluray movies
because the supplied sony drivers aren't fully finctional....
Gimpo can you tell me how you add the required hardware id to the inf file from aptopvideo2go ?

I don't have the tv watching issue because i upgraded to Win7 from with vista, so tv works ok.

Thanks

You don't have to put the hardware id into the inf file, you just need to put it into the search function on the website to bring up the compatible drivers - it returned two for 32 bit win7. The one that worked was 190.xx if I recall - you just unpack the exe, replace the inf file with the one you downloaded separately, run the setup and reboot.

More to the point though, how did you manage to upgrade from Vista to Win7? When I tried the upgrade it failed towards the end and said it couldn't finish and that I would have to start from scratch. What version are you upgrading to? Home Premium 32 bit? 64 bit? How did you run the upgrade?

Cheers

Thanks for the info, i will try it out once im home!

Im using windows 7 Ultimate 32bit retail. installation was very smooth, all hardware in device manager worked perfectly at the start up, so i didnt have to install any drivers. Only issue is i cant play bluray discs, hopefully i can sort that out tonight.

thanks

Ah... wonder if it's because you've got ultimate edition then - because the version of vista was ultimate, I'm thinking that upgrading to home premium might be causing the issue... how very frustrating :-(

Can either of you clarify if the UK TP3's have an AV in to allow connection of an analogue source. I've read conflicting information about this and could do with being sure before I order one.

Paul

have you tried installing the tv card drivers from "device manager" using the Update drivers" tab?
this would perhaps bypass the setup issues you're having... i've just had a look and i'm definately runing the original vista driver for the tv card so it works

i've tried quite a few drivers from the laptopdrivers2go

Theres no AV in sockets. Only and arial socket for freeview tv reception.

Hi all,

Has anyone successfully got windows7 32bit/64bit fully running on the sony TP3?

Im on the verge of buying one right now so any help much appreciated...

Is the freeview tuner a dual dvb-t tuner?
can you watch 1 channel and record another?

thank you all

Good news guys, i've successfully got Win 7 Ultimate 23bit running perfectly on my Sony TP3Z. "Gimpo" Thanks for the info on modifying the Nvidia drivers inf files.
The ones from Laptopvideo2go.com did not enable bluray playback for me, so i downloaded the latest drivers directly from Nvidia site and modified the inf files.

now everything works perfectly :)

Great machine, but shame on Sony for being a pain in the a**, by deliberately fustrating their customers.

"Cos76 " The freeview tuner is dvb-t, and yes i can record one channel while watching another or even record 2 channels at the same time!

Great news!

Is there a free upgrade path with Sony for Windows 7 on the TP3 or do I need to shell out for a licence?

I presume there isn't a free upgrade as these machines are discontinued...

Thanks, Paul

you presume correct.
even though sony are still selling the machined in their store in TCR

I need some help guys from the people that know! :D

i cant decide whether to buy the TP3 for £450

or buy something else such as...

a system from here (works out at £650 for my spec)
PCSPECIALIST.CO.UK - Custom PCs, Custom Computers, Custom PC, Custom Built Computers, Gaming PC

or a system from here (works out at £860 for my spec)
Media Centers :: Micro & ION Range :: HTPC Origen AE M10 Ultra Small Mini ITX Media Centre PC - Intel E5300 Core 2 Duo - 4GB DDR2 - 500B HDD - HDMI - WiFi - 1080p - Media Center Central :: Media Centre PCs - Computers - Windows Media Centre - Media P

above systems are similar spec's to the tp3 but with win7 64bit, 4gb ram and few other bits and pieces :)

please help! :smashin:

Thanks for all the feedback.
I'm trying to work out whether or not to get one of these, but have two questions I need answered before I can take the plunge:

How do you edit the inf files to get the drivers to work? (is it hard or simply a case of swapping a file in the Nvidia directory (I would be looking to install Win 7 x64)?

Does the TP3E handle HD content well i.e. does the 8400m GT fully support dxva? Stopping high bit rate files from becoming a slide show as per my current media pc.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I have a TP2 and I'm having the no audio through HDMI problem since i updated to windows 7. Please could someone explain how exactly to modify the inf file? I cant figure that part out!
Cheers

Hi,

I'm about to try and take the plunge and upgrade to Win 7. Thanks everyone for the advice on the site. Berty - how did you mod the latest driver inf from Nvidia?

Tim

I just bought and installed windows 7 home premium family pack (3 licenses)

Installed windows 7 32bit on my VAIO TP3

after spending hours searching the net to try get drivers for the graphics card and tv tuner i thought i would post them here to save others the trouble :)

TV TUNER DRIVER: SEE HERE

GRAPHICS CARD DRIVER: DOWNLOAD HERE

Everything seems to be working 100% :D

Hope this helps, if anyone has any other links to TP3 drivers for win7 please let us know.

I've just installed Win 7 32bit Home Premium and it all appears to be working fine. I used the original TV card driver and installed it from within Device Manager as the setup program didn't want to recognise the TV card. I used the latest driver from the NVIDIA site with the modified INF file from Laptopvideo2go.

Has anyone got the CEC function working in Windows 7 (control over HDMI)? That would be the icing on the cake!

please could someone who got the 32bit version working post the files they used. Ive tried loads form laptopvideo2go but no matter what I try i still dont get any hdmi audio (video is fine)

I used the latest drivers from the Nvidia site (195.62), along with the 195.62 nv_disp file from Laptopvideo2go. I seem to remember I had to install it from within Device Manager as it wouldn't install automatically.

Still says "hdmi not plugged in" in sounds in control panel.
Can you confirm i added the modified inf right? i extracted the contents of the nvidia driver download to C:/NVIDIA, then copied the nv_disp file into the international folder (the one with all the other files in it). It did not ask to overwite any files.

I'm suspect that either I'm doing something wrong or more likely it just isnt going to work no matter what.

Have you actually managed to install the driver? That's basically what the modified inf file lets you do?

it installs fine. in fact ive installed it fine without the modified inf before.
no matter how or what i install i just dont get any sound through the graphics card anymore.
are you using hdmi/hdtv? do you get audio from it?
