Re: cant get sound through my hdmi

Right click on your sound tray icon and go to playback devices. Make sure it's outputting from the right place. Hopefully that works!

Re: cant get sound through my hdmi

Can I check that you have installed the ATI HDMI audio drivers. These are specific to audio.

Realtek website will host the ATI drivers for HD audio AC889 chip. Download here for the latest drivers.

Re: cant get sound through my hdmi

when you open the playback devices, does your HDMI sound option say, HDMI or ATI HDMI Audio (or something like that) If you don't have it saying the ATI one then this would require you to download those drivers.

Alternatively once you've downloaded them you can, go into your device manager, under sound, video and game controllers right click on your HDMI audio and update drivers and point it to the location of your new r.35 drivers, this will ensure that the device is updated correctly.

Re: cant get sound through my hdmi

I had similar problems with my hd 4870 with native HDMI. In the end, after 4h of fighting, I finally checked the TV's setup and noticed that it used analog as default for HDMI input. Changed that to Digital and alas, the audio worked. Before that it only said "no speakers connected" in the audio control. But this was done straight from PC to TV. Can't really help you with the amp

Re: cant get sound through my hdmi

On my Asus motherboard there's a setting in BIOS where you have to state where to output the audio to, in my case HDMI. I'm pretty sure it wasn't set to this by default but the memories not what it used to be . You could have a look at this if it's still not working properly although the above suggestions are worth a try first I'd say.

Whenever i've had this problem, it's always been the sample rate that the sound is set to. It usually defaults to a lower setting.

Angry Re: cant get sound through my hdmi

I have exactly the same problem.

I have a Gigabyte DS3, with a 4650 HDMI out graphics card.

In the sound properties it says

Realtek HDMI Output
It has a greyed out speakers icon
greyed out headpohne icon
and a digital Audio (S/PDIF) icon

The HDMI out is selected as the default device, although showing only 2 speakers.

If I play music I can see the bar moving up and down as if it is receivng the data, but no output.

It worked fine on W7 RC, although didnt check the numbers of speakers, however a clean install has brought this nightmare, a HTPC without sound is about as useful as Gordon Brown.

Helpppppppppppppppppppppppppppp....

You don't want to be using the Realtek HDMI drivers, you want to be using the ATI HDMI audio drivers. You need to go into your device manager, right click on the HDMI audio and select Browse my computer for this location. Point it to your latest CCC download (9.10 for win7)

Re: cant get sound through my hdmi

Have you tried disabling the High Definition audio device in the device manager just to rule out any conflicts between the two.

Just to check, your onkyo for the HTPC has the correct digital audio input selected and is set to HDMI 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 (whatever the HDMI input is on your Amp) and not Opt1, Opt2, Coax1 or Coax2.

It's hard to troubleshoot when your not sat infront of the pc in question.

Re: cant get sound through my hdmi

the onkyo is fine, i use the connection for my ps3 as well (I switch cable).

I have tried disabling all the other devices but to no aval, what gets me is it all worked fine on the release candidate, but now i've installed the retail version it's fubarred.

I could do a full reinstall I guess to start from scratch but can't see how that will fix this.

What really gets me is i can see the green bar moving up and down for the ati hdmi device but i have no output, i think it's related to the speakers not showing up.

Which HDMI port on the Onkyo are you using? Have you tried the first one?

It's nothing to do with the speakers as this is refering to the green socket off the mobo sound output ports so ignore that.

It's not on mute is it or turned right down. I've done this before. If the bar is moving then the PC is producing sound which would make me turn my attention to other hardware such as your amp. Your amp isn't set for TV speakers is it.... i.e. passthru mode (can't remember which menu it's under)

is this likley to be a codec conflict issue? Are you trying this on a base win 7 build with no extras like ffdshow , ac3filter etc etc?

Just to narrow down the possible defected part, have you tried to use the HDMI output straight to TV, without the amp in between?

As an aside if I ignore the HDMI audio and go straight from the motherboard using opticl out will that work instead?, for the sake of a cable I am sick of this

Hi have you checked to see if you need an audio to video card connection, so the board passes it through and out the hdmi?
