Lost video signal over hdmi if I change tv channel

Hello

I am using a Biostar TA790GX XE motherboard in my HTPC connected to my Sony 37v5500 via the HDMI.

All is great with it thanks to reading through the info on this forum but I have one outstanding problem. If I turn on my TV first and have set to HDMI1 and then turn on my pc all is well and the picture is displayed on the screen but if I turn on the pc and then the TV it won't output to the screen. Even if I change the input on the TV and then try to go back to the PC it loses its signal.

I have to then turn on and off the PC to get the picture back.
Has anyone any ideas or solutions?
I am running the latest bios and updated the video card driver from ATI website.

Re: Lost video signal over hdmi if I change tv channel

this is an issue with ati drivers, something to do with the hdcp handshake being lost... I've read some people can get the picture back by unplugging and then plugging in the hdmi cable although this isn't really a solution... there is also a tool called something like hdmion which constantly refreshes the handshake I think but i'm not too sure

I get exactly the same with my MB (check signature) and my Samsung tv, have given up all hope of getting it sorted so will watch this thread.

Try the latest beta version of MST - Media Standby Tool, this solved this issue for me.

Or just use HDMION to refresh edid HdmiOn | thydzik's technology blog just create a keyboard shortcut and and all is fixed. I have posted to this many times, maybe it should be added to a sticky, mods what you think?

Re: Lost video signal over hdmi if I change tv channel

I had mixed results with HDMIOn, and it also requires a keyboard input every time, MST seems to take care of everything on it own.

Pretty much the same for me regarding MST never found it to be that reliable, whilst hdmion for me is faultless, it does require pressing the keyboard but that is no problem at all if it solves the problem which it does

Re: Lost video signal over hdmi if I change tv channel

Thanks for all the reponses, I had seen the hdmion in the blog but would rather avoid having to bring out the keyboard and it isn't really a wife friendly solution!

You would think ATI would be able to sort this out as it seems to be pretty common for what I found from searching the internet.

I have media standby tool installed already on my machine but didn't think that it might have a fix for this problem I was just using it to schedule a reboot and for a S3 standby

Thanks again

Re: Lost video signal over hdmi if I change tv channel

It would be great if Hdmion could be mapped to a button on the remote but I can't see anyway of making that possible if there was a solution controllable from the remote it would be very handy

I wonder if ghostevent could handle that keyboard shortcut, thus only using your mce remote? I will read up on this more tonight.

Re: Lost video signal over hdmi if I change tv channel

I found a thread where someone was able to use a harmony remote to learn a keyboard button, but obviously the wireless keyboard is going to need to use ir to connect wirelessly, nice idea if you have the harware rather than keeping the keyboard near hand.

I am just resigning myself to power the Media centre down if I want to change the input on the tv, must email ATI support to see if they are looking at this problem

Question Re: Lost video signal over hdmi if I change tv channel

I'm having a similar problem with this on my HTPC and new 40V5500. I'm using an ATI 9550 with the latest drivers connected with a DVI-HDMI cable.

Has anyone come up with a reliable solution other than using HDMIon ? or a way of mapping a MCE remote to activate it ?

Thanks

Re: Lost video signal over hdmi if I change tv channel

To map HDMIOn to one of the remote buttons, you will need something like IRSS, Intelliremote or HIP
