WMP plays all ws files as 2:35:1 & 4:3 as ws?

I have Vista Ultimate 32 installed sp1 and as title it's players are shrinking widescreen media files (avi vob mkv) to 2:35:1 and playing 4:3 files as widescreen 16:9? It's dang confusing.

Any ideas people?
