Post Toshiba underestimates cost of HD DVD exit

Toshiba fears it could find a 100 billion yen hole in its finances, when it publishes its year-end report at the end of March, due to its early exit from the HD DVD business. Originally it was thought that the move would cost the company half that amount. Toshiba admits it’s still trying to evaluate [...]

Re: Toshiba underestimates cost of HD DVD exit

I suspect the real cost to Toshiba will be damage to their reputation as a reliable supplier having left so many of their HD-DVD customers in the lurch!

Re: Toshiba underestimates cost of HD DVD exit

Way too many zeros
I think its about: 500million GBP, LOL!

Edit:
I wasn't too far off:
Japan's Toshiba is likely to book a 100 billion yen ($986 million) loss in its high-definition
$986 = GBP£484

Ouch

Re: Toshiba underestimates cost of HD DVD exit

in a way part of me is glad cos they didnt market well enough and deserted it so quickly, if theyd spent that same amount of cash that they will lose on marketing, and brought the cost of players down, even marginally, things would be different...

Odd, i don't feel left in the lurch at all.... then again maybe i'm just realistic about what being an early adoptor in a format war actually means.

Re: Toshiba underestimates cost of HD DVD exit

Glad it died, just ordered 3 good films for under £12 . If it was still going strong I wouldnt have been able to afford the hd-dvd player never mind the 20+ HD-DVD's
