Post Samsung cancels plans for HD DVD Blu-ray combi player introduction

In a move sure to disappoint HD DVD owners looking to migrate to the Blu-ray format, Samsung has shelved plans to introduce its BD-UP5500 Duo HD dual-format player. The company cites ‘recent announcements’ for canning its introduction. In a statement, the company said: “Now that Blu-ray has been chosen as the next-generation format, [...]

Re: Samsung cancels plans for HD DVD Blu-ray combi player introduction

That makes sense since what is happening in the USA.

HD dvd will be forgotten in a year or two like Betamax was.

In the USA some shops are doing a swap - HD-dvd player for a Blueray dvd player free.

Next logical step would be to swap your hd-dvd disks for blueray disks once the same films are out on blueray free.

That would get over the disappointment for people who bought the HD format.

Probably never happen in the UK due to greed.

Re: Samsung cancels plans for HD DVD Blu-ray combi player introduction

This announcement may make sense, but I feel it is a sad day indeed.

I was quite prepared to buy into the BD-UP5000 when it was announced and when it became apparent that that machine wasnt going to arrive here, I would have bought the UP5500.I dont like LG.

There are still 800+ HD DVD movies out there and together with its upscaling abilities, for SD DVDs my eventual transition into Blu-Ray would have been easier.

I preferred HD DVD,it was a complete format from day 1.Now I have no choice than to wait while the powers that be in the Blu-ray manufacturers consortium decide when or if,to lower the prices of their machines while dictating the pace at which features, which should have been standard, are drip fed onto the market.

I,and I suspect many others, will now stick with SD DVD for the foreseeable future.
