Post HD DVD studio exclusivity deals are time limited

The exclusivity deals for HD DVD which have been signed by Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks Animation SKG may have leveled the playing field with rival Blu-ray - but the balance of power is only temporary. The catch is that the deals are only in place for 18 months, although it’s conceivable that they may be [...]

Re: HD DVD studio exclusivity deals are time limited

Won't this apply to BD studios too? Have they done the same?

Only time will tell...... same for Universal still and warner - either could switch anyday possibly (could, not will or maybe or likely too.... just could.... can they ??)... the ony one we do know is Sony..... They wouldn't switch (not yet anyhow).....

Re: HD DVD studio exclusivity deals are time limited

I don't understand the excitement or interest over who paid who what. We know Fox was brought with DRM, it seems quite likely Disney were paid ("no comment"), and who knows about Universal.

All we know from any exclusivity deal is that the format war will drag on. The longer it does the more dual focused components and hence products will appear. Neither format will fail now.
