Post Toshiba unveils cheapest ever UK HD DVD players

Hot on the heels of Sony’s budget Blu-ray player, Toshiba has announced two new HD DVD players for Europe that undercut it. The new players, dubbed HD-EP30 (pictured above) and HD-EP35, will go on sale in the UK in October, priced at 270 and 337 pounds respectively. Both will offer 1080p/24 image support and HDMI [...]

Re: Toshiba unveils cheapest ever UK HD DVD players

How can they be the cheapest ever when the HD-E1 is only £180 ?

It is a news supplying robot mate and cannot answer you back. You are right though. RRP is banned in the UK, guess they have to put a starting price to get punters excited, in 3 months they will both be £50-£75 less than when launched, the Venturer Chinese HD player will launch at £200 so it will be a dogfight for christmas, we will all benefit in the end.

Re: Toshiba unveils cheapest ever UK HD DVD players

Isn't the £180 price for the E1 only on online or specialist stores?

I think if the Venturer HD DVD player is around £200 in the likes of Argos then sales will be increase greatly.

Re: Toshiba unveils cheapest ever UK HD DVD players

Sony really need to get java blu-ray players out at the same price point as the HD DVD ones. Maybe samsung should slash the price of their cheap player or sony price the PS3 at £300. Most places sell PS3s for £425 with 3 games and extra official controler, so sony should retail the core system at a price minus the bundled stuff.

In my view if sony can price match their players with HD DVD then they will win support from movie companies, and thats where the war will be won.

If Sony can do thats then it will give HD DVD a real run for it money. The problem is consumers just see the cheapest and not the best system, which may see HD DVD win if sony don't pull there fingers out player wise.

Thats my view anyway

Re: Toshiba unveils cheapest ever UK HD DVD players

The cheapest a HD DVD player for me would be is £99 for the xbox add on HD DVD drive.

Until HD DVDR becomes cheap enough i wont be making the move just yet anyway.
