It's all well and good saying that blu-ray doesn't perform better than HD DVD, but we've only seen one example of each kind of player. I have watched output from over a hundred different dvd players and the difference in quality between them has been staggering, I certainly won't be laying down any cash for either BR or HDDVD until the players have been through a couple of generations. Samsung have admitted to issues with their player, with processing options that shouldn't have been present being left in on production units, until I see how the deck performs with these issues rectified (hopefully the official UK release) I shall be holding my tongue.
As for their canning of tv shows, isn't that wholly irrelevant to the point in question?
Sure copy protection is a big plus for BR, but if that were the sole motivation for the picture companies then everybody would be on the BR bandwagon, there has to be more to it than that. You can bet your arse that these guys have had technical demonstrations from both camps far in excess of what we consumers have seen, so I think there will be more to add to the debate come Q4.
