Post Denon reveals 1080p version of its renowned DVD-A1XV DVD player

Following is the press release from Denon about the new version of its high-end DVD-A1XV DVD player – complete with 1080p scaling… ” The DVD-A1XVA Reference Class THX-ULTRA Universal Disc Player: £2699.99. With cheap chips abounding, 1080p upscaling is already appearing on DVD players as cheap as £200. But upscale a poor...

Is this the "best" DVD player yet?

In terms of specs (and not it's "timing" with HD-DVD/Blu-Ray just around the corner) how is this player shaping up?

Does it output 720p and 1080i, as well as 1080p? (Pixel-to-pixel)

What does it lack and what would make it better? (other than HD-DVD/Blu-Ray compatible and price!)

Any other thoughts? Remember your remarks should be based on features, specs, potential picture quality and sound quality, and NOT on it's release "timing" with HD coming. Thanks.

Cheers,

Martin.

I kicked myself when I heard the news there was a 1080p version of this machine...however, I'll probably only want the upgrade if I get a 1080p projector maybe in the future.

As far as DVD players go, I think it's the best machine ever, in terms of its Picture and Audio capabilities. I've seen alot of HD material and although the A1XV isn't true high definition, it's the nearest thing to it, especially after I performed an ISF calibration on my Pioneer.

As long as you have a DVD with a decent picture transfer, you're in for a visual feast. I was stunned after hooking the machine up for the first time. Then, a month down the line, I got a tip-off from Denon to use the Image enhancer facility (to fully utilize the Teranex processor). After bumping it up to +6 and more or less dropping the Sharpness on the plasma to the lowest setting I was floored!

My only gripe is that the Denon has no support for HD .ts files. If the video processor can upscale DVD's to 1080p, then why not add an ethernet connection at the back of the unit to stream HD material from PC's or external Hard Drives? Now that would be something! ...and I wouldn't have the clutter of two DVD players.

This is only amp I could find which have enough input for all (with enough component/HDMI and optical input)

GC, XBOX, XBOX 360, PS2, DC, PS3, Sky HD, 1920 DVD player, N64, and Nintendo Revolution. Shame the price is so high for me
