Chicken Little showcasing new Dolby 3D system at UK cinemas

Following is the press information from Dolby about the release in the UK of Chicken Little in 3D, using the Dolby Digital Cinema system…

”Dolby Laboratories has announced that it will be supporting the forthcoming UK digital 3-D release of Disney’s Chicken Little. Following the success of the same film in the US, where Dolby equipped 84 screens for presenting the movie in this stunning new format, the Dolby Digital Cinema system has now been chosen for exhibition of the movie in specially selected UK cinemas. The Odeon UCI cinemas in Bath and Wimbledon will have a special early release of Chicken Little on February 3rd, well in advance of the UK general release on February 10th.

Easier conversion to digital 3-D is just one benefit of Dolby Digital Cinema. Digital 3-D improves on its film counterpart with smoother action and a more convincing dimensional effect, free of the eyestrain that frequently accompanied 3-D film presentations. For Chicken Little, moviegoers wear lightweight polarizing glasses that permit normal head movements while maintaining the 3-D effect.

Paul Schofield, Technical Manager, Odeon and UCI Cinemas, said: “We're very pleased with the performance and reliability of the Dolby Digital Cinema system. Our projection teams have found the server to be very user-friendly.”

The systems have been installed in cooperation with the Odeon UCI technical team and cinema specialists, Bell Theatre Services. Installations feature the Dolby Digital Cinema playback system partnered with specially configured DLP Cinema digital projectors.

There are now more than 135 Dolby Digital Cinema systems installed in nine countries around the world. These systems are providing amazing picture and sound for motion pictures from the major Hollywood studios, not just 3-D presentations. More than 25 digital movies have been played using Dolby Digital Cinema in select locations around the world, including Chicken Little, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Flightplan, Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride, The Incredibles, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Madagascar, The Magic Roundabout, Sin City, Star Wars: Episode III—Revenge of the Sith, and Valiant.

Dolby has always worked closely with content creators and exhibitors and Digital Cinema is no exception. Dolby Digital Cinema ensures that moviegoers will get an exceptional, opening-night-quality presentation every single night. The pristine image will never show dirt or scratches, giving viewers a more involving cinema experience than ever before.

The Dolby Digital Cinema system was specifically engineered for real-world cinema installations and offers superb picture quality, reliability, and user-friendly operation. An added advantage is a high level of piracy protection, so that movie studios can feel secure in releasing digital presentations to cinemas equipped with the Dolby Digital Cinema system.”
