Hmm no mention of HDMi output as well, not quite sure on how well it would upscale normal dvds to 1080p and then of course with blu-ray and HD-DVD round the corner is it worth buying now or wait till systems have both drives (or at least one) in the setup

Agree with you all. I have little PC building exp , so I asked on here and a member of avs helped me - I think it all boils down to value for money with growth for new technology. I am thinking of changing my 2x 300gb to 2 x 500gb  | |

That would be because there are no cards for sale that have the output. This is just a PC built from readily-available components put into a nice case with a very hefty price tag put on it.
How do they justify the price jumps in hard drive sizes? from 300GB to 600GB is £200 more yet a 320GB Western Digital Drive costs £90

Yes it can rip DVD's to it's HDD but I would imagine that the software would put some form of DRM on it to prevent it being copied off onto DVD-R's. Yes it's possible to get round that with other software but you can't ban a discussion of a product based on the premise that it can be hacked to do other things.

I don't know if anyone realises this but most PC's for about the last 10 years can output 1080p !!!
This is not a new thing in the PC world.
Just checked the Res settings on my measily Radion 9200 (£45).... It goes up to 2048x1536. Thats 1536 Progressive !!
Remember whatever your display settings say, then that is what progressive signal you are outputting.
All PC's automatically deinterlace and upscale DVD to your default res.
For example, My 17" TFT is running at 1280x1024p. If I play a DVD fullscreen the 576i video on the DVD is being Deinterlaced and upscaled to 1024p.
It has to be, otherwise I wouldn't see anything.

That does seem way too expensive, to a person that knows how much one should cost to build (about a third of that price), but the market they are aiming for will more than likely not know how much one should cost. It is clever to launch it into a AV retail outlet rather than Computer.
The case looks like one of the Silverstone range, and all the other gubbins can be bought easily. Maybe it is the customised Media centre2005 and other software that costs the money?
It doesn't say anything about being able to edit your recorded stuff to remove ad breaks.
