Samsung launches first 'dual-core' multimedia laptops

Following is the press release from Samsung about the launch of its first dual core notebooks, the Samsung X60 and R65 - which Samsung claims are ideal for home entertainment as well as professional use…

"Featuring Intel's recently launched dual core processors, Samsung's X60 and R65 offer professional consumers and home users an unrivalled combination of high performance and power packaged in Samsung's consistent sleek and slim notebook design.

Boasting a slightly larger memory, hard disk drive and 15.4 widescreen, Samsung's X60 equips the professional consumer with maximum mobile computing power, whilst its R65 provides an equally powerful alternative for the home user with a greatly improved multimedia performance.

In both models, Intel's dual core processor responds to the user's needs and ensures seamless system performance; listening to music, for example, will not compromise the performance of other tasks. In addition, it greatly enhances the performance of all multimedia tasks, guarantees sharp sound quality and offers a battery life of up to five hours 30 minutes Dependent on user's environment.

Samsung X60 notebook

* Intel's dual core CPU processors, which increase the overall performance of the notebook and allow users to multi-task without effecting the overall performance of the notebook
* Weighing just 2.4kg, the X60 reflects Samsung's "thin and light" strategy, making it ideal for mobile users who value portability
* 15.4 SuperClear display featuring Samsung's exclusive Digital Natural Image Enhancement (DNIE) for outstanding image quality
* The first notebook embedded PCI-Express Gigabit LAN solution, guaranteeing a stable network connection without the use of a PCI device. In addition to enhanced 802.11a.b.g wireless and Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity
* win-array microphones to filter out unwanted ambient noises and ensure high quality sound, perfect for video chatting or Internet phone calls
* Optional X dock, providing ˜single click" connection and easy access to a wide variety of ports including parallel, serial, USB ports and DVI to deliver outstanding digital image quality on large displays and projectors

Samsung R65 notebook
Offering equal performance and power, the R65 takes personalised entertainment to the next level with high-definition capabilities, extensive multimedia applications and uncompromised performance. In addition to Intel's dual core CPU processors key features include:
* 15 SuperClear display featuring Samsung's exclusive Digital Natural Image Enhancement (DNIE) for outstanding image quality

It's interesting to compare with what Apple has done with the same broad spec. Apple's is:
30% smaller volume
DVI out is standard
optical sound in/out is standard
built in camera
firewire is full (with substantial power for external devices)
remote control is included (for controlling media playback)

There are many other small differences, including a bigger diffrence: the price!

I am a bit surprised Samsung don't include digital sound or picture out.
