Rotel delivers new ultra-slim 7-channel power amp

Rotel has launched the RMB-1077 multi channel power amplifier, a super slim design just over 2-inches tall that nevertheless delivers 700 watts (7x100) of dynamic and clean power.

Integrating digital technologies and ‘smart’ power-supply design with Rotel’s Balanced Design Concept has enabled the company to develop a product that it claims ‘rivals and, in many respects, outpaces the performance of traditional designs’ for high-performance, seven-channel power in custom-installation home theatres, or wherever efficient, ultra compact multi-channel power is required.

Key to the RMB-1077’s design are two proprietary technologies. Rotel’s Controlled Oscillation Modulation (COM) underpins the unit’s efficiency, stability and effectiveness from a switching-type digital power supply, while Rotel’s, Multivariable Enhanced Cascade Control (MECC) circuit topology creates a “smart” amplifier in which the power supply and the actual amplifying circuits work cooperatively to boost efficiency (to an impressive claimed 90%).

Technical specifications
* Continuous power output (20-20kHz, less than 0.03%, 8 ohms): 7 x 100W
* Total Harmonic Distortion (20Hz-20kHz): < 0.03% at rated power, 1/2 power or 1 watt
* Intermediation Dist. (60 Hz : 7 kHz, 4:1): < 0.03% at rated power, 1/2 power or 1 watt
* Power Output (4 ohms, 0.09% THD)
* Damping Factor (20-20,000 Hz, 8 ohms): 400
* Amp Gain: 27.4dB
* Frequency Response: 10-80 Khz (±3dB)
* Signal to noise ratio: 105dB

This could really work for my set up as i am trying to keep the shelf space limited to what i currently have, what with the impending arrival of a 360 and the imminent arrival of HD Players i was a bit worried that i would have to keep increasing shelf space, which may spoil the asthetics of the room.

This would really give me the option of freeing up two shelfs (this amp would sit nicely on my processor) and with it having 7 channels would be able to bi-amp the front three as my current set up allows, i will be keeping a keen eye on this amp
