Following the launch of the Dream’eo portable multimedia player we told you about on the 10th, the French company behind it has now announced a GPS navigation kit for the player. The 20GB built-in hard drive can store all European maps and Points of Interests in less than 3GB, leaving plenty of room for video, pictures and music storage.
The low-current GPS receiver is based on the SiRF Star IIe/LP chip with an integrated processor ARM7TDMI. The satellite tracking utilizes more than 12 parallel channels and therefore provides the system with quick signal capture as well as stable reception. This should guarantee that the GPS kit will function fine even in towns, woods and canyons or valleys.
The GPS navigation software used is NavMate from Horizon Navigation Inc. NavMate offers street guidance with direction and curves announcements, text explanations, map zoom and voice output. You get touch-screen navigation, and the map can be displayed in 2D, 3D or as a split-screen with six zoom levels. The search for destinations can be displayed with different criteria such as address, crossroads, points of interest (POI) or previous navigation locations.
On top of the main navigation software the system delivers an enlarged search feature covering a million points of interest organized in more than 40 categories and provided with phone numbers.
Voice and text outputs are available in English, German, French, Dutch, Danish, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. The included maps and charts enclose 16 western European countries. The package contains the software, an external GPS receiver, cables, a car mounting kit as well as a power adapter for the cigarette lighter.
The SOLO GPS navigation kit will be available any day now for a recommended retail price of £ 419 (inclusive VAT) with one country map and £ 449 with all the Western Europe Maps. The navigation upgrade kit without SOLO will be available for a retail price of £149,- with one country map and £189 with the Western Europe maps.
