Exclusive! JVC launch three new DILA projectors for 2009

JVC have unveiled their new projector line up to the UK press with exclusive video coverage of the new models on AVForums.tv

The new models consist of the entry level DLA-HD550, the DLA-HD950 and a high-end custom installation model the HD990. The existing JVC models (DLA-HD350 and DLA-HD750) will continue to be available until stock runs out. So what do the new models offer?

Starting with the DLA-HD990 information was scarce on the exact features available but the contrast ratio will be 70,000:1 native, without a dynamic iris.

The DLA-HD950 is a direct replacement for the HD750 and boasts a contrast ratio of 50,000:1 native and is THX and ISF certified.

The DLA-HD550 replaces the HD350 with a native contrast of 30,000:1.

For the first time JVC are implementing Clear Motion Drive technology into its projectors. This is a new addition that introduces frame interpolation for fast moving sports and games as well as DVD and broadcast TV. *However JVC are keen to stress that for Blu-ray movie playback there will be no need for the CMD as BD runs at 24fps and the company see no need to change the intention of the movie makers. Also added is inverse telecine to display TV broadcast and DVD created using 3:2 pull down and reconverts this source back to 24fps and displays this at double speed (48fps) ensuring cinema like viewing.

Further technology added includes the screen adjustment mode which attempts to match the projectors images to the type of screen being used, such a grey or white screen.

Both projectors will incorporate the HQV Reon-VX video processor developed by silicon optix, which features precision I/P conversion and scaling with full 10bit 4:4:4 signal processing.

The DLA-HD950 has been licensed with the ISFccc (certified calibration controls) mode, enabling trained and certified ISF users to professionally calibrate the projector to the source chain, room environment and industry standards for video reproduction. This allows not only the best performance from the DLA-HD950 but images that recreate exactly what was seen when films and TV material was mastered for video playback. *Again the DLA-HD950, like its predecessor will feature the THX mode and certification. This picture preset attempts to hit industry standards for film and TV playback out of the box without advanced calibration.* While it will never be a substitute to professional set up, the preset does give users an ‘as close as possible’ image to Rec.709 and D65 standards.

Both projectors also have fixed lens apertures which can be adjusted to suit the viewing environment of each model. The DLA-HD550 has a three point adjustment with the DLA-HD950 sporting 16 steps.
