Re: Oppo BDP-831 Blu-ray Player due in September

It's a great player, there's no doubt, and will almost certainly be region hackable like it's US cousin.

But I would imagine that the majority of people in the market for an Oppo will not need SACD/DVD-A and will be bitstreaming audio; it'd subsequently be great to see another model at say £350 with no analogue outs.

A "lite" version has been mooted for, possibly, next year. Personally, I went for the BDP-83 and MR mod kit as a replacement for my Pioneer 757Ai.

Re: Oppo BDP-831 Blu-ray Player due in September

oppo are usually first to do players with everything in at a great price, and now they are doing a higher end model (for them) with some extra bits i dont have on my ps3 like sacd and of course analogue outs and im guessing ps3 doesnt decode hd audio it just passes a stream ?

but.. given that this player will last you a good few years given the cost would it be wise to wait for a player that supports HDMI 1.4 ? i mean oppo will probably be the first to do one.. and 1.4 is now ratified and out there its just a matter of six months lets say before its a feature on players and the benefit it can bring ?

still, i suppose you need the displays aswell to take advantage of 4 megapixel bluray but philips have a set i belive and i think there are PJ`s coming out with this resolution too.

looks great though as it is

Re: Oppo BDP-831 Blu-ray Player due in September

I've been making room in my budget for the modified BDP-83, so with the BDP-831 coming the timing is perfect.

Any chance the European version comes with the extra hdmi-cable and that the Spears & Munsil calibration BD comes in zone 2 as well?

Oh, and good evening! My first post on this forum i

The PS3 decodes audio and sends it as multi-channel LPCM over HDMI.

Unfortunately you can't make arguments like that about any technology as there's *always* something new just around the corner

Will keep my eye on this player now

Re: Oppo BDP-831 Blu-ray Player due in September

I have made contact with Oppo reagrding a possible actual date within September and got this very quick reply:

Quote:
Dear ####,

Thanks for you interest in OPPO Blu-ray player.

The European version is being prepared for launch(definately 2009, earliest september). As soon as we get more info, we will contact you.
Please register for our newsletter, so we can send you the updates on Blu-ray player.

Thank you,

So it looks like it could be later than September.
