Cannot use HDMI slot on ASUS M3A78-EM with SAMSUNG LE32R87BD

Hi there,

I have just build a HTPC with 780G chipset( ASUS M3A78-EM) nothing special in the machine, 460W CoolerMaster PSU,4GB Ozc PC6400 memory,WD 640GB hardisk, AMD 5600+

I tried to use the HDMI slot on the motherboard to connect my tv(SAMSUNG LE32R87BD), the TV is able to get the signal but the quality of the picture is unbearable, all the font is almost unreadable, broken, and shadowing. And it is flashing when showing the windows welcome screen.

I have tried to install window xp,2003,vista, nothing improved. Also, the drivers are all latest from Asus website including the Bios. I also tried AMD/ATI version.

Change to different resolution and scan rate didnt help.

PS: I also tried using VGA cable ( D-sub) and it is perfectly fine working under 1360*768@60hz

Could anybody help? I really want to get the HDMI working.

Thank you

do you have to set the res on the pc to match your tv and set the refresh rate to 50hz?

Re: Cannot use HDMI slot on ASUS M3A78-EM with SAMSUNG LE32R87BD

Have you checked the HDMI cable isn't faulty?

Stupid question I know - but break-up could be caused by one of the data connections being intermittent.

Can you detail all formats and refresh rates you've tried.

HDMI on an HD Ready display should always support 1280x720 at 50Hz and 60Hz - and 1920x1080 at 25 and 30Hz interlaced. 1280x720 are the best first check resolutions.

Also - your BIOS is enabled for HDMI + VGA rather than DVI + VGA isn't it?

I have a LE40R87BD - native resolution is 1360x768, so maybe the target resolution. Also, one of the HDMIs on the back does something different to the other, can't remember what. I have mine in HDMI2, not sure how many HDMIs the 32" has.

The cable is fine, i brought them from amazon with very good feedback and I also tried friend's cable, same thing happened

I have tried all the standard 720p 1080i res and rate I can find on the internet, also tried different rate on TV's native res which is 1360*768. I almost covered all the res the video card supported. no magic.
