Apple Ipod Touch or Archos 5 to control HTPC

Hi guys,

Ie just entered the world of HTPC and this forum has been a godsend to me. was just wondering if anyone knows of a way or is, using an ipod touch or archos 5 ( or something similar ) to control their HTPC??

I want to use something similar to a tablet to control my HTPC

Any advice / help / views would be grateful....

something like a logitech harmony would probably be your best bet
pair it with a dinovo mini for the full effect

Hi, if you are using MediaPortal for your HTPC then there is a plugin called iPIMP that sets up a webserver on your HTPC which you access over your home WiFi connection on the iTouch (or anywhere with iPhone). It makes the webpages look like an app. I have not tried it yet, let me know how you get on!

Does this plugin only allow control of TV or does it allow control of movies as well???

I have not tried it yet, but the link I sent you states:

"You can also use iPiMP to interact with your MediaPortal clients, you can use it as a remote control as well as view & play music playlists on your MediaPortal clients. This will be extended to provide additional features for the music, video and other MediaPortal plugins. "

I guess that means that it acts as a remote control with buttons on it (play, pause etc.) but it meantions more features to come ... i think he means to stream your movies.

There is also a free VNC app available for the iPod touch, give that a go. If you can get it to work, it would be amazing.
