Problems playing Blu-ray and HD disks

I have today bought and installed the LGH20L BD/HD DVD rom into my PC. I tried the drive with audio CDs or SD DVDs and all is OK. I put my Backdraft Blu-ray disk into the drive as I thought it would just play through media player, but it doesnt. I then installed Power DVD that came with the drive and tried it. A menu came up that asked me to select language, then I manged to get the menu up and selected scene selection. The screen stays blank and audio comes on and a voice is talking about the film (sounds like the producer), but no visual. I have downloaded the Cyberlink Blu-ray disk advisor and it has given the green light for Bluray.

Is this anything to do with HDCP, and what do I do to resolve this?
Thanks

Re: Problems playing Blu-ray and HD disks

it looks like you have an analog video connection, so HDCP may well be the culprit! Do you have ANYDVD HD? If so use it to allow the video signal over an analog connection. I use VGA into my projector and I couldn't achieve it without ANYDVD HD!

If its like the HD-DVD version, its Ron Howard introducing the film, but the poster above is correct - it does sound like HDCP issues.

My correction, it is actually the HD version thanks.

I am trying any DVD version 6.5.0.7 and its saying 'ERROR processing HD DVD disk!' When I check the status window is shows '...error getting volume hash! 'ERROR processing HD DVD disk!'.
Which player are you using anyway, is it still OK to use Power DVD?

Re: Problems playing Blu-ray and HD disks

I have fixed any DVD by reinstalling and think it was an installation error. Do I continue to use Power DVD player then?

you really have 3 options for playback, Powerdvd (7 for both HD and Blu), Arcsoft's TMT or WinDVD9. That may not be an exhaustive list if anyone knows of any others?

You should be fine with PDVD

Still having problems. Despite andDVD showing the AACS protection removed, nothing has changed. Could the problem be something else?
I have and LCD TV that is HD ready, I have tried that connected to the computer so that its completely digital signal. No different.

Re: Problems playing Blu-ray and HD disks

have you downloaded the latest firmware for the drive, and the powerdvd update? It shouldn't be HDCP, as that is only valid over DIGITAL connections, and not analogue. Note HDCP stands for High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection.

I'm guessing that you are using VGA output (as your screenshots states analogue) , or do you have multiple monitors / tv screens attached?

You are correct about me having multiple monitors connected. I have a Samsung LE40A686M connected via DVI to HDMI. I have tried disconnecting monitors and trying them independatly etc, but Power DVD just will not give me video.

I havent yet downloaded FW updates for the drive. I did however try WinDVD and it works fine with that, but there is no controls to adjust the aspect ratio which it defaults to. I am having problems getting Power DVD8 to play HD and am having to research that to see if the problem was the Power DVD package that came with the drive.
