Got a Problem with Audio In Some MKV Files

Im getting this error message when i play certain 1080p mkv files:

Does anyone know why this is caused and how i can fix this?
(Using MediaPortal's own built in media player to play the files)

When playing those files the sound is choppy and not so good

Does it play ok in KMplayer? Not that that helps if you want to use MPs own player, but just to isolate the fact that it plays at all.

That looks like a subtitle stream not an audio one.

ye it looks liek a subtitle stream but its affecting the sound also for some reason. Sound is choppy in the files that show that error message. Its fine on the rest.

Is there anyway i can remove the subtitles from those files?

You could demux and remux the mkv file. You will need to have a look in the MKV anyway to see what audio streams it has and see if they give you a clue to why the audio is choppy.

I've managed to remove the subtitles by using a program called "MKVMerge 2.4". Very handy utility which lists the files contained in the MKV container (Video, Audio, Subtitles) and you just untick the files you want to remove from the file and save it

Regarding the choppy audio, well I've narrowed it down to it being a MediaPortal ONLY problem as the same files play without any audio problems in WMP Classic and WMP11. So, it must be a problem with MP's built in media Player (which i use).

like i said in your other thread just install ffdshow see if that helps, or better yet coreavc (not free though) and see if that works any better for you, make sure you set media portal to use the ffdshow codecs from the config menu though.

im using those codecs already mate.
its only a problem with 1080p files. 720p files and divx play fine

Currently using AC3 also

hmmm thats strange, 1080p files played fine when i was using ffdshow.

mabye try coreavc?

Works in other plays fine.

Right i've stopped using MP's own built in player and have now told MP to use WMP Classic BUT i got a problem. When playing a movie now i am unable to use the remote anyway i can fix this?

Solve one problem and it creates anotehr one

How did you rip these files? Does the original source play okay i.e. the Bluray disc?

The original plays Fine. Like i said, its just a problem with MediaPortal's own built-in Player - not other players. Infact MP's own built-in player has audio problems (stuttering, jerky etc) with 1080P files ONLY.

I've tried setting AC3 as the audio decoder of choice - Didnt help
Then i tried FFDshow - Didnt help

lol as odd as this sounds ive just got a new 1080p rip, tried to play it through media portal and got the same message, however, movies i have previously ripped in 1080p work fine, so it seems the problem is only with certain mkv files.

to add more of a headache im using ffdshow to play the audiop through spdif, now if i open the rip using media player classic but still using ffdshow audio decoder it works fine, using ffdshow audio decoder through media portal does not work though, very strange.

i think ill spend the night investigating this, nout better to do lol.

How did you rip the file then, software, settings etc.....?

ok ive solved it (well some bright spark on the media portal forum did lol) i just found the thread.

basically its actualy a bug in media portal and vsfilter, you just have to download a patch and place it into your media portal root folder.

once the file has been placed into the root folder, go into the ffdshow filters menu from the start bar and click "vsfilter configuration", now in the general tab make sure it is set to "do not load".

now go into the halli media splitter settings from the start tab then options and hit the + next to the compatability option then make sure "autoload vsfilter" is set to on.

your mkv files should now work perfectly, the reason it only affects some files is its a subtitle issue so any file without a subtitle should not have been affected.

all of these settings were only tested with ffdshow mind, not sure about other players ect, and halli media splitter ect needs to be installed, but if your using ffdshow it should be already.
