Blu-ray & Catalysts

I've been having some blu-ray woes. When I load the cyberlink blu-ray advisor it says my graphics card drivers are not BD ready... I have the latest catalyst i.e. 8.530.0.0 so what could be the problem be? Everything else seems ok.

Re: Blu-ray & Catalysts

The latest ATi drivers are at 8.9. What card do you have - it could be that rather than the drivers.

Are you running Vista or XP?

Re: Blu-ray & Catalysts

Vista.... I'm using an ATI x1900, an older card for sure but it should be HDPC compatible, BD advisor seems to think it is.

FYI 8.530.0.0 is the file version of the latest catalysts

Re: Blu-ray & Catalysts

OK so i went in to the catalyst control center and did a reset of factory defaults. This seems to have cured the problem with the driver.

Only problem is i still can't watch blu-rays.... Power DVD will play them for around 5 seconds and then say. 'Failed to enable HDCP, Please switch to analog output (VGA, D-Sub) and then try again. (Error Code = 0110).

It advises me to run blu-ray advisor which i do and the only red light i get now is on 'display' which says 'digital (without HDCP)'.... My display is soley a sanyo plv-z5 connected via DVI to HDMI cable.

Any ideas on what the problem could be?

Re: Blu-ray & Catalysts

Try the ANYHDDVD app, trial will last 21 days, and removes all the HDCP handshaking that goes on between device to screen.

Re: Blu-ray & Catalysts

Also - I remember that some of the very early video cards that appeared to claim HDCP compatibility didn't actually deliver it. There was some form of words that implied that they were fully HDCP compliant - when in fact they weren't? (It was manufacturer specific ISTR)

However AnyDVD HD effectively removes it as an issue... Whether this is legal or not is another matter.

Re: Blu-ray & Catalysts

I have tried AnyDVD HD. the only problem is that for 2 of my 3 Blu-rays (LA Confidential and The Aviator) it says that it has to download a critical update from the slysoft servers which you can't do if you are using the trial version
FYI my other blu-ray (Casino Royale) plays fine

Maybe if I upgraded to the full version it would be ok, but I can't be sure so don't want to fork out the money. AnyDVD seems quite expensive so maybe it would be cheaper for me to buy a new graphics card if people think that is the blame?

Re: Blu-ray & Catalysts

I've never regretted AnyDVD as a purchase - but then I have quite a few Region 1 DVDs that I wanted to play.

AnyHDDVD have 20% discont offers all the time, and its probably the best peice of software a HTPCer could buy. Money well spent, and life time upgrades for £50 odd quid (I got cloneDVD as well during 20% time).

What 'version' are you using? The trials are normally the latest versions, just 21 day time locked.

Does Casino Royale work when anydvd is not being used?
