New ultra-slim LCD TVs are threatening to steal the limelight from next generation wafer-thin OLED screens. All the major LCD backers at the recent IFA techfest were promoting superthin screens, and according to Shin Sang-heung, senior vice president of Samsung Electronics Visual Display Division, the key trend for LCD going forward is ‘slim and sleek.’ To prove the point, Samsung’s new Korean-launched PAVV Bordeaux 850 screen measures just 44.4 millimeters thin at its widest point.
