Post Sim2 to offer new HD video format, claims it will be better than Blu-ray

Projection specialist Sim2 is getting into the hi-def software business. It made the surprise announcement at the CEDIA Expo in Denver, where it revealed that it has joined forces with multimedia outfit Entertainment Experience to offer a ‘better than Blu-ray’ video format for high-end users.

The new HD video system requires a proprietary video player (aka a customised PC) coupled to a compatible Sim2 projector.* The new partnership maintains that their system delivers image quality somewhere between Blu-ray and Digital Cinema (4K2K). The ‘format’ claims to offer a wider colour gamut than Blu-ray, calibrated to the Digital Cinema Initiative color standard, and a maximum bitrate of 50mbps.  read more »

I can't the studios being interested, already having Bluray and downloads.
Let's face it, most of the public don't even see 1920 x 1080 properly.

Well it wont be that difficult to best the soft image that blu ray has to offer.

Lets hope the "new" format goes back to the EXCELLENT detail available on HD DVDs, No region codes and a COMPLETE FINISHED system so we dont have to go through several players in a year just to keep up to date !!!!

I wish Sim2 all the best with the venture.

RIP Blur ray - the sooner the better for us all.

As someone who's authored (test!) discs on both formats, I can tell you (as will many others) that untampered 1:1 reproduction of 1920x1080 is possible on both formats.

I'm with you on region codes though (who isn't)?

Agreed... let's please loose the damn region coding on BD's, it's pointless.
