What hi-fi sound and vision....or what Sony???...You decide!!

Whilst i recognise that Sony are very good in a lot of fields, how is it that they ALWAYS win the group tests in this magasine. They don't dominate like this in other mags, so how come with What Hifi they win everything?? Is it just the case that NOBODY else can beat ANY of their products???

Chuckle chuckle, i'm glad there are others out there with similar views. From the looks of the mag lately, its getting worse. No doubt Sony are a good brand with some decent products, but that many 5 stars and winners .....come on.

Be interesting to see how much their marketing budget with WHF is!

This years awards should also be interesting.

It's interesting this as the DG820 got 5 stars from them - which is possibly due to the chapeness so fair enough. What irritated me was that the Denon 1909 got it's stars reduced to 4. Now I've listened to both of these Amps for a while and the Sony just doesn't as near as good as the Denon and it's essentially in the same price category.

I'm not bothered about stars from What HiFi (I prefer my own views!), but they do seem to be slightly bias. Let's just hope they're not getting *cough* encouragement from Sony, like Tom's Hardware used to receieve from Intel (and is still rumoured to).

It's been going on for ages. My fav' was the Panny BD35 & Sony S350 showdown.

Panny wins and gets five stars.

Sony is missing fundamental features - WHFSV own words:

'Granted, the Sony might not tick every feature box'

'Against: No onboard decoding of DTS HD Master Audio'

Yet it still gets the full 5*'s!

Even though the competition in the same price bracket according to them offers a better image & more features.

New issue......not sure how a Sony AV amp can beat the 3900

Sony may pack a few features for the money, but they've NEVER worried the top dogs as far as AV amps are concerned, not since the old 920/925/930's and proper ES amps anyway.
