"Trainee" Position Wanted - Kent

Hi,
I would like to develop my career in sound and lighting by specialising in the design and installation of custom home cinema and home integration systems. For the past 15 months I have been employed by a small company offering sound, lighting and A.V to businesses, schools and churches for installation and live events. I have been involved in installing sound systems, A/V systems including flat screen TV’s, projectors and CCTV cameras and also lighting systems ranging from stage lighting to mood lighting and architectural lighting.

I am interested in a job in kent, preferably close to the maidstone or sevenoaks area but would go further if the right position was offered.

I have a good level of common sense and i am very willing to learn.

Any help or advice that can be offered would be greatly appreciated.

If anybody would like to know anything more then pm me.

Thanks
Charlie

No, I'm pretty sure it was down to the attitude of the people who were running the show, they wanted to pay minimum wage for skilled work if said work took us into overtime (if they felt like paying us on time or at all....)

A few other pretty poor ones who promised and didn't deliver on jobs and pay levels for advertised jobs, and the general narrow mindedness of people I applied to with scripted answers of "the other candidates had this and that that we were looking for" without giving an interview first to find out, usual crap.

Do you not see a pattern here?

Did somebody say something?

My last performance review (in my new career) went something like - "I've got no issues, you're getting on fine and fitting in, picking stuff up and running with it, anything you want to talk about" - so maybe the pattern was the wrong industry.....

Some of the blinders when looking for work: (I won't mention any of the blinders whilst working in the industry, as some of them are covered by compromise agreements not to disclose - read into that what you will....)

"Oh, we've decided not to employ someone to replace the person who left, but to divvy the money between those that remain"
"Oh, when we said 20 grand in the advert, we meant that's our budget to pay this person out of" - this one actually thought I'd quit my existing job that paid more to go and work for him - wake up and smell the coffee....
"Would you consider working at this other venue every day, that's 30 miles away, as one of our existing staff wants to move to the one that's convenient to your house.... and occasionally travel back to the former one to lend a hand when they can't cope - no, there's no vehicle with the position"

and finally,

"so, you don't have a good honours degree then, so I guess that means that you consider yourself to have equivalent professional experience" (for a technical facilitator job at a university, having worked as a technician at a university in the past....)

I went to all these sodding interviews to discuss the relevant points (after finding out the caveats in most cases), hardly a can't do attitude. I can do, but I don't do for peanuts, those days are over.

Smile Re: "Trainee" Position Wanted - Kent

Just for anybody who may be interested, I received an email back from Kevin very soon after contacting him. I went for an interview a few days later and then walked away with a job offer.

I am only 19 and i have not got any qualifications in this area but Kevin was very nice and i am really looking forward to starting work at sound ideas in a few weeks time.

Thanks avandmore for suggesting that i contact him.

Re: "Trainee" Position Wanted - Kent

Im loving it. Really enjoying it and working with a great bunch of people. I am learning so much everyday.

The only problem is that it's making me want to spend far too much money on equipment for myself that i will never be able to afford. lol

Cheers

Charlie
