My last performance review (in my new career) went something like - "I've got no issues, you're getting on fine and fitting in, picking stuff up and running with it, anything you want to talk about" - so maybe the pattern
was the wrong industry.....
Some of the blinders when looking for work: (I won't mention any of the blinders whilst working in the industry, as some of them are covered by compromise agreements not to disclose - read into that what you will....)
"Oh, we've decided not to employ someone to replace the person who left, but to divvy the money between those that remain"
"Oh, when we said 20 grand in the advert, we meant that's our budget to pay this person out of" - this one actually thought I'd quit my existing job that paid more to go and work for him - wake up and smell the coffee....
"Would you consider working at this other venue every day, that's 30 miles away, as one of our existing staff wants to move to the one that's convenient to your house.... and occasionally travel back to the former one to lend a hand when they can't cope - no, there's no vehicle with the position"
and finally,
"so, you don't have a good honours degree then, so I guess that means that you consider yourself to have equivalent professional experience" (for a technical facilitator job at a university, having worked as a technician at a university in the past....)
I went to all these sodding interviews to discuss the relevant points (after finding out the caveats in most cases), hardly a can't do attitude. I can do, but I don't do for peanuts, those days are over.
