Time for a change.

Hi guys
Well it looks like after eleven years working for the same company, My job could be up for the chop.

So I think it's time to take a serious look at changing my career.
I have had a keen interest/passion for Home Cinema/AV and would love to make it my profession.
My main interest is in the design and installation side of this. The phsyical and technical shouldn't be a problem for me to learn and do ( 9 years as a plater/welder and the past 2 years designing and making decals for the motor industry with computers).
My main problem is I only have expereince with my own personal setup and setting up friends and family, So I would be starting from scratch.

I live in the South Yorkshire area and was woundering if any of you guys could give me some ideas on where to start looking, IE courses or companys that do training schemes.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Craig

If you are quick, CEDIA is next week at ExCel in London Docklands. Most of the courses will be held there, but a lot have maxed out (including mine)

Thanks for the link.
Trying to find out if I can get on the EST course.
If I can I'll take the time of work to do it and stay at my sister-in-law's. She lives in London, I'm sure she wouldn't mind me crashing on the sofa for a couple of days.

Re: Time for a change.

Hi

I'm pretty much in the same position as you, i have a passion for Home Cinema/home automation & would love to transfer this into a worthwile career.
Looking at the CEDIA link it just seems very short notice for me to attend/ get on a course.
I am very practically minded & learn very quickly with a hands on approach & pay particular attention to small details.
I have set my own system up (inc prog my remote for other brands & applied macros), made my own cabinet & done all the wiring inc chanelling out & replastering & refinishing (as i'm sure any other dedicated enthusiats has).

Any help / advice much appreciated
