Question Advice Needed

Hi

Im hoping somebody can provided me with some advice

Ive spent the last 5years working for Bang&Olufsen manging whole house AV projects and all the administative duties related to installations etc

My problem is that i want to move into the custom AV field and im dubious if my B&O experience counts towards anything as B&O isnt the most usable product in terms of custom AV

What are my options?

Re: Advice Needed

Kofski23,

I would say that your experience is going to be valued by most CI companies, as long as you can highlight the additional skills toolbox you've developed (project management, customer relations, process planning, etc.) and don't come across as too manufacturer orientated.

We're in Scotland and joke about engineers coming to us 'Linnwashed' - having gone through Linn training and unable to see any other AV product but Linn.

Any good CI company is always looking to get in good, knowledgable staff, which allows them to install more systems.

Good luck!

Re: Advice Needed

In some ways your training can be taken seriously, but in actual fact you may find companies might not take too much notice of it as B&O tend to do things their way.

The Way Forward

Hi Everybody

Im hoping somebody can give me some good advice

Im sure that im not the only person feeling the strain in the current economic climate

Im just wondering if there are any career prospects in the AV industry....Ive spent almost 6 years working for B&O and have been involved in installations, servicing, sales, administration, project management and many other things...Basicly i made what in hindsight was career suicide almost as i left a comfortable to to 'better myself' in the world of custom AV installations. not long after i joined that company the recession hit, clients cancelled jobs(same story through the industry im assuming). since then ive done some contracting work but things arent busy and im just contemplating what to do now

Do i give up on AV and change career path?
If i do change career path then where are my skills applicable

I know B&O arent very user/engineer friendly but im hoping the skills i learned there are transferable into another career path

Anyways, im hoping that somebody out there can give me some advice
