Wanted : Amp and speakers for cinema system

Hi All,
I'm a newbie so please bare with me.
I'm after an 5.1/ 7.1 Amplifier (£150.00 or so) and some speakers £50.00 (Preferably small cube type) for my developing home cinema system. Unfortunately, my budget is only delivered. I have a Sony blu ray player (BDPS1) so anything that would complement that would be perfect. Would prefer HDMI connections if it's possible. The amp would need too power my Linn Helix speakers for audio purposes. Hope I'm not asking the impossible!

Many thanks

Matt

Re: Wanted : Amp and speakers for cinema system

With a budget of only £200, I'd probably look to spend £150 on an amp and £50 on a centre speaker, leaving surrounds and subwoofer for another day. This is because the majority of audio information comes through the centre speaker, including pretty much all dialogue. You might even want to look at getting an amp which supports a "phantom centre" via your existing speakers, if they're positioned fairly evenly around your screen.

There's an Onkyo TX-SR674E which has 2 HDMI inputs, one HDMI output for £160 in the forums here: http://www.avforums.com/forums/ampli...-reciever.html

Re: Wanted : Amp and speakers for cinema system

Hi, Thanks for the response. I take on board your comments. The Onkyo looks very good and should do a job. Does anybody out there have a decent set of surround sound speakers for around the £50.00 mark?
