Re: Toshiba XDE500

I'm also tempted but mixed reviews and the prospect of new XDE enabled players from Tosh - but with more refinement - is cooling my enthusiasm.

Plus I already have 4 DVD players.

Do I need another.

Curse this hobby.

I too have too many DVD's players, infact I chucked my old Warfdale 750i Dvd Player which was one of the first ever released out last night, even though it was fully working. Shame, but there we go... currently got a Samsung 1080P7 but could be pursueded now at this price... Mmmm

Re: Toshiba XDE500

I saw a stack in my local comet thae other day for 60 quid, so picked one up for my bro for xmas, will do a comparison against a Tosh HDEX1 later.

It did have a 12 month free love film subscription too, kinda makes it a bargain in my book

good spot

Re: Toshiba XDE500

Bought one today. Already have Denon 1730.
First impressions, very good.
My TV is Panasonic PX60 which is not full HD.
I have the Toshiba set to 1080p and find the TV accepts it.
Can't say the sharp feature is obvious. Could this because the TV is 768p?

Well worth £59-95

Wink Re: Toshiba XDE500

Excellent deal.

I have a PS3 which automatically upscales UK DVD's, but sadly it's region locked with no chance of playing my US DVD's.

I needed a good quality upscaling DVD player that I could unlock.

This DVD player from Comet also comes with a HDMI Cable &
12 month free LOVEFILM rental deal.

For those of you not aware of how to unlock the Toshiba XDE500 to make it Multi Regional, here's how:

- open the tray
- type 2403960
- press 9
- close the tray
- turn the player off and back on again

Re: Toshiba XDE500

I've been watching the Star Trek Movies on DVD with this player on my Optoma HD70 Projector. I enjoyed the films without the picture distraction I had last year on a Standard Upscaling Player. I've selected COLOUR mode which boosts the colour levels and sharpness.

I'm very pleased with the Sharpness and Richness of Colour. It definitely is a good player and looks the part only for the flimsy tray which lets the otherwise good build quality down.

In my opinion these movies look better with Toshiba's technology than on any other Upscaling Player I've had and that's a few Sonys, Panasonics and Samsungs and also Toshiba HD DVD Players.

I also had a butcher's at Munich which I thought had an awful DVD transfer with Blur and a washed out look. Yip the XDE500 sorts this out!

It's still not High Definition HD but great as a stop gap for movies that are only on DVD pending a Blu Ray release like the aforementioned. Worth having for all your SD viewing.

The Lovefilm free year is great too!!

Re: Toshiba XDE500

It's 4 a month with 2 allowed at a time I believe.

Wouldn't normally keep me satisfied but now we have a baby in the house 4 is fine.

Re: Toshiba XDE500

Hi,

I recently bought this player and tried the hack below but it doesn't work. If I can't get this to be multi-region then I will be sending it back. DOes anyone else have another hack for this? Would be much appreciated.

- open the tray
- type 2403960
- press 9
- close the tray
- turn the player off and back on again

When i bot this a coupla weeks ago it was back up to £69.99 at Currys, but got it for £62.99 with sister's employee discount. But, to the point, the Lovefilm 12 month dvd promotion is still on till end of May AND open to existing customers too!! I emailed them to check as I am on a 2 disc a month plan and will now get 4 discs a month for a year, saving about £96, so the dvd player is more than free!! Make sure you register properly tho!I will try to swap it coz of the whine when on standby tho, as it is very annoying-I think if I had a dog it would cut it's own ears off!! It does a great job with dvd's tho and is silent when playing - no whine!
