Talking Fantastic value glass shelved separates rack found for under £80

Hi all,

after finally getting fed up with the old B&Q wooden unit I had my equipment sitting on I was in the market for a nice rack that could hold the usual Home Cinema gear as well as having a high WAF, (Wife acceptance factor), after resigning myself to the fact this was way off due to the fact that glass units that didnt look like a dogs breakfast or that where not designed solely for one piece midi systems started at around £250 I came across this over the weekend. Not bad for £79.99 at argos.

Note that it doesnt have any cable management so you'd probably need something in addition if you need to tidy up the spaghetti that forms behind these things, (personally I find B&Q zipties in black do the job admirally but Mrs Edz is after one of thos "spinal column" chrome jobbies that you try to stuff 2 fully wired scart cables and 200 other cables into before they explode )

Cheers All

Edz

(Edit: to save you all time the argos code is 534 1472)

I agree. I got one of these a couple of months ago. The construction of the up rights was a bit worrying during assembly. The welds holding the threaded pieces into the tubes looked offset, however the plastic washers above and below the shelves take care of that. At that price you expect manufacturing imperfections. A great deal at a sensible price.

Thanks for the info. Went to buy one of these a couple of months ago but they were out of stock. I will go and have a look again later this week. Glad to hear that it does the job, as paying £200 -£300 for something similar is just not an option!

Does anyone know if these would take "large" separates such as my Denon AVC-A1D amp or Pioneer CLD-925D Laserdisc player?

How big are they?
My pioneer vsx-710 fits easily on the bottom shelf as seen in piccy above.

This has been out of stock in my local argos for weeks.
Found some nice alternatives at www.littlewoods-index.com
They are under 'furniture' on the web site.

What weight can the Argos rack handle?

Hello General. The shelves are 6mm thick tempered and very heavy. Not sure of the weight limitations but it feels solid enough to carry most big AV items.

Regards, Mylo

Sounds strong.

I'm quite impressed by it for only £80.

My concern is that I could have 2 x 27Kg power amps on the bottom two shelves, a dvd, sky and a 10Kg processor on it. A big load. Can it handle it?

I would think yes, it would make the unit very solid and eliminate any chance of wobble (technical term).
