SkyHD box half price.

In store at Currys.

£75 instead of £150.

Obviously doesn't mention anything about installation, and there are terms and conditions on the packages you need (I think it has to be the full price thing, with sports and movies included)

https://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/editorial/sky

Decent deal for anyone looking to upgrade I suppose.

(I assume this is the right place for this?)

Re: SkyHD box half price.

I thought about getting a HD setup but from what I can see there's only a few channels, is it worth the extra?

Re: SkyHD box half price.

Think there are more than a few channels and I am sure there were a few more recently added - as to whether it is worth it is entirely subjective. If you ask me, no it isn't, but then I don't watch much telly. If you watch a lot of sport, films and stuff on Sky1 then it probably is?

You just need to have a look at the channels that are HD and decide whether you want to spend that extra money to get it?

Personally I don't think its worth it. However, at least once a month I end up having a heated discussion with a mate who swears its worth every single penny. Its definately a personal opinion.

A lot of the HD channels aren't as high quality as I would expect. An example of that was when Revenge of the Sith originally premiered on Sky HD it took up 20% of the machines hard drive. I believe they then cut down on the bandwidth which takes up less room on the hdd but in turn lowers the quality. The last time I recorded it, it only took up 7%.

Obviously from my post you can understand that I don't have much of a clue how it all works but I can at least say I did notice a drop in picture quality.

However, I do always watch the footie in HD, when the wife gives up ownership of the controls, as the difference in PQ is as obvious as black & white compared to colour.

*edit* there are also 19 channels currently in HD but I believe there may be a few more by the end of the year.

Re: SkyHD box half price.

As mentioned above it's all down to personal opinion and preference. Having owned it previously my opinion is that if you like Sports then that is where the most noticeable improvement is. I wasn't impressed with other HD material through Sky....definitely lacking in content (still).
