Cool Richer Sounds/John Lewis

Was in Southampton today, got the RSounds brochure and walked into John Lewis(JS). JS plasmas were over a grand more expensive than RS. However, the sales chap said they do price match (but not internet prices). Also JS give 5yrs guarantee on tvs. So you could price match against your local RS shop and get 5yrs cover. RS charge approx £250 for 3 yrs cover........ an interesting day out....

I reckon with £1000 difference they'll surrender!
If they agreed to it, I'd be well impressed!

Wink John Lewis and LG plasmas

Forgot to mention that the sales assistant believed they would not be stocking LG Plasmas anymore. He told me not to think about getting one as they did not rate them and have had a lot of problems with them. He did not expand on the subject any further and recommended the pioneer or was it a panasonic? Either way, I was surprised at his candid remarks....

cause he doesn't want to sell you something that will mean you'll be back shortly ! Those 5 year warranties mean they have to be careful or it costs them a fortune.

From what I've seen in Bristol, JL don't stock "bare bones" plasma screens like those in RS - they all have tuner boxes. But you're right, they will price match RS on like for like items, it's unusual for JL to stock Sherwood av amps and Cambridge Audio DVD players though.

I work in john lewis reading audio and tv department, (in reading) and we very often are selling things way below the price we bought them in for. Within the first 28 days of purchase you can bring it back for pretty much any reason you want. All you have to say is that its unsuitable. Also, the guarantee is 5 years because we hardly get ANYBODY have any problems with tv's, and if they do its usually a crappy 15" or something like that.

It is nice to see a retailer not showing contempt for customers and actually looking after them i will be using JL for any big purchases in future i think. Just a pain to get out to Cribbs for me!!!

Will JL sell a bare plasma screen without the 'extras' mentioned above ?
What happens to the returned items ? Can we get a bargain on one of those ???????

I bought the screen only from JL got the sims converter
loop my dvd player thru the Sky RGB digibox>Converter>Plasma
the analogue tuner is Poor - compared to the direct link - Plasma

the onlything about having the tuner...No teletext, which is no great loss to me

sky has plenty of text based stuff
after 10 months this Plasma is the best bit of gear I have ever purchased.

every single visitor goes WOW 'which makes me feel better' after spending so much cash on it

only thing I regret... is not being able to afford the 50"Beastie I can honestly say I have bought my last CRT set for the living room
