Perhaps the reasonably meaty graphics chip required to decode high def video? In a PC you buy it separately, whereas a standalone player has to include one hence higher price.

To a small note the link is to a LG GGC-H20L not the GGW-H20L the big difference being that it is a Blu-ray/HD-DVD rom drive and DVD writer. The GGW as noted in the specs already posted does write Blu-ray discs but then it is £172

Still both are excellent value for money.

Tempted to go out and buy one my self. Now we just need to wait for the cost of Blu-ray blanks to come down in price to match.

Actually, you dont need a pricy card. I got one of these:

for around £35 (it was a while ago! price has come down even more!)

I plugged my 360 hd dvd add-on into my PC and watched some movies through it. No slow down or judder! I actually preferred it over the 360 (a lot less noisy, etc) so it stays plugged in the pc now!

So, for around £170 (the price of the card and the drive) you can turn your pc into an ok blu ray/hd dvd player!
