Re: LD GGW-H20L Blu-Ray Writter/HD-DVD Reader combo drive

Just out of interest, would this work with an external enclosure? I'm assuming the PC would need DVI-out to benefit from the high-res playback.

I know little about this - just asking because I have a mate who might be into this kind of gadget.

Yeah it would work fine externally but obviously would need to be sata. You would also need hdmi/dvi output on your gfx card, but it would also need to be hdcp enabled for watching BD/HDDVD. However, I think the likes of anydvdhd or whatever removes the need for hdcp enabled cards. Most modern cards are hdcp enabled however.

Re: LD GGW-H20L Blu-Ray Writter/HD-DVD Reader combo drive

I got one last week from overclockers. It's great and comes with Power DVD Ultra Suite, so all you need is...errr....a very fast graphics card (a 8800 ultra in my case), a very fast processor (QX6700 in my case) a DVI cable to your plasma and a SPDIF cable into your AV receiver. Works like a treat! The format war is officially over for me

Your just showing off with your setup

For the record, any of the new lower end ati gpu's should decode blu-ray/hddvd just fine and pretty much any nvidia 8 series should do the job!

Ok fair enough, you don't need a quad core processor and an 8800 Ultra card But it certainly helps in terms of picture quality or if you're like me running a dual view setup with a plasma screen and want to use the PC for other things while someone watches a movie.
