Re: Free HD-E1 HD DVD Player with Matrix Trilogy!

i wonder if the staff will be allowed to have one.. if so i imagine a lot of them being taken "for friends" etc and a lot of customers will miss out

if not then it's an unusually generous offer, even if it doesn't do 1080p

People will be queuing round the block. This offer has been posted on HotUKdeals... Good luck, I'll be in bed.

I know, a friend of mine is planning on going at 6am that morning

Tried to convince he will have to go a bit earlier than that

Re: Free HD-E1 HD DVD Player with Matrix Trilogy!

I'm wondering now whether to bother or not, I get to work about 10 mins from that HMV at 8am anyway so to be there for say 6 is not much bother...

However the thought of being there at 6am and the queue already being half way to Regent Street is less than appealing when I could be getting some much needed shut-eye

Still an (Almost) free HDDVD player is a very nice thought indeed... finally have a HD source to use with my plasma...

Re: Free HD-E1 HD DVD Player with Matrix Trilogy!

I doubt it'll go undersubscribed....

I'm still in two minds as to whether to go or not, might set my alarm early and see how I feel when it goes off.

If I get there at 6ish and there are already hundreds of people I suppose I can go for coffee and breakfast and actually be awake by the time I'm due to start work (That would be a first on a Monday morning lol!)

Re: Free HD-E1 HD DVD Player with Matrix Trilogy!

The last time I queued for some HiFi equipment was at IMHOFS in 1963 (44 years ago!!!) and I started queuing then at 6am the previous day!! When the shop opened at 9am on the Monday well over 200 people were queuing and I was the 6th person in the queue. I got what I wanted ( a Leak pre-amp and a Decca power amp) but dozens of people had queued for really no reason as whatever it was they wanted had long gone by the time they got into the shop.
Nowadays I would think that one would have to start queuing for something that is virtually free as HMV are offering would mean joining or being one of the early queuers at least 36 hours before opening time!!
Best of luck to anyone who does though.

Re: Free HD-E1 HD DVD Player with Matrix Trilogy!

Just got back from this at 9am. Both my brother and I got the HD-DVD player and were 35/36th in the queue. We joined last night at about 10.45pm and the last ticket went at about 0445 this morning. A few people were turned away.

Thanks to the AVForums!

Re: Free HD-E1 HD DVD Player with Matrix Trilogy!

I got there at 5:15am and no joy as you say I just missed the last wrist band by about half an hour. Shame but you win some, you lose some I guess. If you've got the stamina to stick out 10 hours in that horrid smelly alleyway all credit to you and you're much deserved HDDVD player

The first person in the queue got there at 7am on SUNDAY morning

Re: Free HD-E1 HD DVD Player with Matrix Trilogy!

the missus went back to her mum's on Wednesday and came back on Sunday morning ... so I suggested "considering I've been fending for myself all alone - I think you should make it up to me by going to Oxford street at 3am" ...

Didn't actually expect her to say ok

She left our place at 3 and got there for 3:30-ish ... wrist band 124 ...

Can't wait to get home and play with my new toy

Re: Free HD-E1 HD DVD Player with Matrix Trilogy!

I was thinking earlier, if you got a wristband couldn't you just go off and come back at 8am when the store opened?
